The 5th Annual Jay Cullen/SHARE THE ROAD 5K has selected the Forsyth County Chapter for Girls on the Run and First Baptist Church Cumming (FBC) Youth as the beneficiaries for its 2008 race. Hosted for the 5th consecutive year by FBC the race will take place on April 26, 2008. It serves as an outreach to Cumming, Forsyth County and North Georgia in addition to promoting road safety for runners, cyclists, and motor vehicles. The race committee works with advocacy groups to get “SHARE THE ROAD” signs posted in Forysth County and the North Georgia area.
The youth of First Baptist Church Cumming, GA will use monies to participate in World Changers. The group will travel to Alaska this summer to spend their days painting, roofing, and building decks. Last summer nearly 22,000 students participated in World Changers projects around the globe. World Changers is a ministry of the North American Mission Board, SBC, in Alpharetta, GA.
ABOUT GIRLS ON THE RUN-
Girls on the Run is a non-profit prevention program that harnesses the power of running to help preteen girls develop self-esteem and a life-long commitment to nutrition, exercise, teamwork and community service. The program combines uplifting life lessons with real workouts, and prepares girls for a 5K run/walk celebration at the end of the season. The Girls on the Run curriculum addresses the development of the ‘whole’ girl--her physical fitness, emotional intelligence, and social awareness.

ABOUT JAY CULLEN
The Jay Cullen/SHARE THE ROAD 5K Race began in 2003 when FBC decided to host a running road race as an outreach initiative for the church. As a member of the church Jay Cullen was recruited to help organize the race because of his vast experience with competitive running and cycling races. Tragically, Cullen died in a cycling accident in January 2004 prior to the race. The church decided to continue with the race and lovingly dedicated it in his honor. The hope of the Memorial run is to inspire individuals to be their best while raising awareness for road athletes as we SHARE THE ROAD.
