Cumming, GA – July 7, 2007 - The Cumming Gymsations competitive gymnastics team, which is part of the Cumming Recreation and Parks Department sports program, has had another outstanding season. After having had a great regular 2007-2008 gymnastics season, the Cumming Gymsations were ready for the 2008 AAU Georgia State event. During the state sanctioned event, the teams performed very well and were poised to take their success to the next level – the AAU Age-Level National Championships.
Qualifying for nationals is a tough task placed before the gymnasts by the coaches of the Cumming Gymsations. Before they are allowed to represent the team in the Nationals event, a minimum average score of 36.000 for girls and 54.000 for boys was required during the competitive 2007-2008 gymnastics season. To put this into perspective, that average score equates to a 9.000 average on all apparatuses, which consists of the vault, beam, bars and floor for the girls, while the boys have the vault, high-bar, rings, pommel horse, floor and parallel bars – an accomplishment in and of itself. A 10.000 is a perfect routine scoring for each apparatus.

From June 30th to July 3rd, the Cumming Gymsations sent thirty gymnasts and three coaches to Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, FL to represent Team Georgia for the 2008 AAU Age-Group National Championships. Supporting the team in this event were coaches Paul Daniel, Deven Pressley and Cathy Campfield. With almost 1,400 gymnasts participating in the event, you can be sure that excitement was in the air.

The results of the competition were excellent for the Gymsations. The successful run began with the Gymsations Boys team, where Peter Campfield, Level 4, scored a 57.900 composite, including a perfect 10.000 on the parallel bars, resulting in 1st place honors in the All-Around. This showing also resulted in Peter obtaining the highest composite score in all men’s age-groups using the 10.0 scoring system. The All-Around is a composite score resulting from the addition of event scores.

The Gymsations Girls team, comprised of Levels 2 through 7, rose to the challenge with more top finishes. Two of the gymnasts successfully took 1st place honors in all four events in their age-groups, including 1st place in the All-Around; Autumn Keller (Level 7) with a 38.175 & Aleta Davis (Level 3) with a 38.200. Autumn also obtained the highest All-Around score in nation across all Level 7 age-groups.

Representing Level 2; All-Around placements were Kelly Sullivan (2nd Place), Camryn Klaus & Stephanie Hyde (3rd Place), Lindsey Fischer & Brianna Gilbert (4th Place), Lindsay Strickland (5th Place), and Sabra Thiltgen (9th Place).

Representing Level 3; All-Around placements were Aleta Davis, MacKenzie Miller & Sierra Reed (1st Place), Kaitlyn Rodden (2nd Place), Jessie Huskey & Alyssa Reed (3rd Place), Julia Price, Caroline Kajzer & Sydney Harvey (5th Place), Ellie Barger (6th Place), and Nicole Kajzer (7th Place).

Representing Level 4; All-Around placement was Annie Karrickoff (2nd Place).

Representing Level 5; All-Around placements were Velera Price (1st Place) and Elena Campfield (3rd Place).

Representing Prep-Op; All-Around placements were Melinda Price & Brittany Zimmerman (2nd Place) and Donna Kaye Price (5th Place).

Representing Level 7; All-Around placements were Autumn Keller, Alexis Schubiger, Abby Kabo & Jaime Edeus (1st Place).
With the phenomenal All-Around showing, the Gymsations also collected forty-eight 1st Place titles.

The Cumming Gymsations gymnastics team, which represents the City of Cumming, is coming off its most successful season ever. Over 95% of the team competed at the State level this past year, and for the first time sent thirty gymnasts to compete at the AAU National level. This was an amazing experience and I would do it all over again. I had great support from all of my teammates: Jamie, Alexis, and Abby. This was so much fun!
