GENERAL INFORMATION
Forsyth County Parks & Recreation Mission Statement: The Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to improving the quality of life for
the citizens of Forsyth County by providing quality programs, facilities and opportunities.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION
A completed registration form and full payment is required to register for all activities. Payment accepted: Cash (walk-in
only), Personal Check, Money Order or Credit/Debit Card (MasterCard, Visa, AmEx & Discover.)
Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Please note that some activities may have assigned registration dates.
Minimum and maximum numbers of participants have been established for each activity. If enrollment is insufficient,
activity will be cancelled and money refunded. If activities are full we can place your name on a waiting list and you will be
contacted when a space becomes available. We do not prorate class fees! Registration is not accepted by instructors!
Walk-in – Please visit our offices Monday – Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm at these locations: Central Park Administrative Office,
Sharon Springs Park Office or Sawnee Visitors Center. We do not accept registration at Central Park Recreation
Center!
Night Drop – Please use the mail-slot at the Sharon Springs Park & Central Park offices. Forms will be processed the next
working day. No Cash!
Fax - Please fax in a registration form and use a credit card/debit card for payment. Fax # 770-781-2221
On-line - Visit our Website, www.forsythco.com. In order to use the online registration, you must be in our computer system.
If you have registered with us before your HH ID # is located on your receipt. If you have not registered with us before, you
will need to complete a registration form and fax, mail or drop it by one of our offices.
Mail-in – Please mail a registration form and payment to Forsyth County Parks & Recreation, P.O. Box 2417 Cumming, GA
30028. No Cash!
FACILITY RESERVATION INFORMATION
Many of the park facilities may be rented for meetings, family gatherings, parties and other events. The facilities are available
on a first come, first serve basis. To inquire about facility availability and rental fees, please call 770-781-2215. To reserve a
facility you must come in person to our offices and complete a rental agreement and pay the rental fee and deposit fee.
REFUND POLICIES
Any activity or facility rental cancelled by FCPRD will be refunded accordingly.
Classes – Require a request to be made 2 full business days prior to the start date in order to receive a refund.
Recreation Summer Camps & Special Interest Camps – Require a refund request to be made no later than May 23, 2008 for
a full refund. After May 23, 2008 all refunds requested will be charged a $ 25 surcharge and must also be requested 5 full
business days prior to the start date of camp in order to receive the remaining balance.
Sports Camps - Require a request to be made 2 full business days prior to the start date in order to receive a refund.
Facility Rentals - Require a request to be made 2 full business days prior to the reservation date in order to receive a
refund.
No exceptions will be made on the Refund Policy! Refund request forms are available in our offices and online at www.
forsythco.com.

Special Events
3rd Annual Northside Hospital - Forsyth Film Fest
Central Park, 2300 Keith Bridge Road, Cumming, 30040
July 10, 11, 12 • 7pm - 11pm, movie starts at dusk • Admission: Free
Watch family blockbuster films on the largest movie screen in the South (65 feet wide)
while sitting on lawn chairs or on blankets under the stars. Come early to enjoy delicious
food items and pre-movie activities.
We encourage you to buy food on-site. A portion of the proceeds benefit charity.
Activities include NoJoe’s Clown Circus, an inflatable slide, moonwalks and obstacle
course, face painting, children’s activities and vendors. Activities to benefit charity will
have a small fee.

RECREATION DAY CAMPS
Registration Begins: Monday, March 24, 2008
Registration can be completed online, in person and via mail or fax.

Important Parent Information
The weekly camp theme provides a focus for special activities and special
guests throughout the week. Each week participants will be involved in
a variety of activities such as arts & crafts, nature, games, dance, drama,
movies, outside play and much more! Camps will take a field trip one day
during the week. The field trip schedule will be available in our offices and
online March 17th. The camp is for Ages, 5 1/2 - 10 (Children entering 1
– 5 grade only!). Children will be split up by age groups on the first day of
camp. Campers must have completed Kindergarten to be able to attend.
The extended care program provides your child with day care supervision
while they participate in non-themed games, movies and playtime.
The staff to camper ratio is 1:10 as recommended by Georgia Parks &
Recreation Association’s guidelines. Please pick up a copy of the Summer
Camp Parent Handbook for further information or visit our website to print
one www.forsythco.com.
Camp water activities will be limited according to the county’s water restrictions.

CAMP HORIZON
This is a fun camp for teens with a small group setting. Each week will have a
different schedule; sign up for all 4 weeks! The camp will meet at Central Park
Recreation Center and venture off on various field trips designed to be fun and
educational. The field trip schedule will be available in our offices and online on
March 17th. The camp will have 2 staff members with a maximum of 12
participants. Additional parent information will be provided prior to the camps
start date.

THEME DESCRIPTIONS
ALOHA, Hawaii! – Set off on a Hawaiian
Adventure! Campers will learn about the island
state, including how it formed, its geography, as
well as its culture. The week’s activities will include
hula dancing, limbo contest, and a luau.
Boys & Girls Week – This week is always a fan
favorite! Girls will be girls and boys will be boys…..
Girls will be doing all the “girly things” that girls
love to do. There will be nail painting, crazy
hairdos, jewelry making, and of course great
fashion sense! Boys will be playing in the great
outdoors, painting camouflage faces, building
forts and just being boys!
Character Camp – Have a favorite superhero?
Ever wanted to be a Rock Star? Welcome to
Character Camp! This week campers will have
the opportunity to be their favorite character,
whether it is Harry Potter or Hannah Montana!
Go for the Gold! – Let the games begin! It is
once again time for the Olympic Games. During
this week campers will learn about the Olympic
Games and their history. They will also participate
in varies sports and learn how to play different
games.
Animal Adventures – Campers will learn all about
animals this week. We will explore where and
how they live. This camp will involve animals from
crawly critters to large mammals!
Science Matters – Explore the exciting and ever
changing world of science! The week will be filled
with science experiences and cool projects. It will
include a variety of different areas of science.
College Daze - Go team!! Show your school
spirit this week! Campers will be supporting
their favorite college teams this week, as well as
learning about mascots and general college life.
Passport: Around the World – Grab your passport
and let’s go! This week campers will “visit”
different countries and explore their culture,
food, currency and language as they fill-up their
passport.

CLAY CAMP
Campers will learn slab, coil, pinch pots, hand-building, combined forms, extruding and glazing. Supplies are furnished; campers must be
able to glaze on June 26, 2 - 5pm.

DRAMA CAMP
Drama camp is designed to help each student use their creativity to improve skills in auditioning, improvisation and character development
in a fun environment. Students will work with monologues and scenes and perform for friends and family on the last day of camp. The
instructor, Karen Beyer, is an actress, director and choreographer in the Atlanta area and has appeared on stage with The Alliance Theatre,
Ansley Park Playhouse and Theatrical Outfit. Karen has directed children’s theatre productions, drama camps and classes at the Sawnee

This camp is designed for beginners as well as children who have taken previous tennis lessons. Participants will be grouped by ability level

Specialty Camps
ROBOTICS CAMP
Students will join up with Evan and his archaeologist uncle as they explore a Mayan pyramid complete with traps and
treasures. Using a variety of LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT robots, students will learn and use a design methodology that will
teach them about the new motors and sensors that their robots will use. Complete building and programming instructions
will be provided for each robot, allowing the team to follow along and learn as they build 2 of the 5 robots found in the
book. After completing the class, students will have the skills to build and program the remaining 3 robots in the book
and will move closer to the secrets of The Mayan Adventure. Parents will be invited on the last day of camp to come and
watch the final competition. Registration cutoff date will be July 11th. Students participating in the class will each receive:
One LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT robotics kit plus software, One copy of LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT: The Mayan Adventure by Jim
Kelly, Classroom handouts and some extremely fun take home assignments and a certificate of completion. A separate check for $300.00 made

Safety Town is a fun-filled, 9-day program for children entering Kindergarten. Participants will learn safety awareness and preventive
safety procedures. Each camper will receive a t-shirt from Safety Town, a digital CD and a Medical Waiver card from SafetyNet4kids.
The first week meets Tuesday-Friday and the second week is scheduled for Monday-Friday. The final Friday is Graduation and

Learn the ancient art of fly fishing at the Atlanta Fly Fishing School in Cumming. FFA master certified instructors will teach casting, fly

GARDENING WITH NATIVE PLANTS
Native plants require less water and are adapted to local soil and weather conditions. Using native plants in your garden or landscaping

WATER-WISE LANDSCAPING AND RAIN BARREL WORKSHOP
Whether you are designing a new landscape, renovating an existing one or just trying to keep what you have alive, water is often times
the key. Come learn the seven components to creating a landscape that uses water efficiently while still providing the best care for your
plants. You will also build your own rain barrel from a food-grade 55-gallon drum and get advice on how to set it up for use at home. All

GETTING STARTED WITH GEORGIA ADOPT-A-STREAM
Keep Forsyth County Beautiful teams up with the Outdoor Division to introduce you to the Georgia Adopt-A-Stream (AAS), a program
that provides the opportunity for local citizens to play a role in protecting their water resources. Volunteers will learn about the process
of registering their stream, wetland or lake that they will monitor. Participants will learn how to use maps to delineate and assess their
watershed. Land use and impervious surface is discussed as it pertains to the watershed survey data forms. The second half of the
workshop is spent in the field conducting a visual stream survey, learning how to do a stream cross-section and how to calculate flow.

MOMMY & ME YOGA
Mommy & Me Yoga is a creative & entertaining way to bring the joy of the exercise, and the wonder of all living things to our children. Your
