Keep Forsyth County Beautiful (KFCB) was formed in 1993 by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to make the environment and natural history of Forsyth County a top priority.  These citizens felt that with the anticipated growth of the county resources such as parks, wildlife, and waterways should be preserved and cherished.   One year later, on June 21, 1994, KFCB was certified as an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc.

The mission of KFCB is to educate the public on recycling, solid waste reduction, litter control, and protection of natural resources.  We also offer guidance to any organizations or individuals with interests in these areas. The KFCB affiliate is made up of three county employee positions. A volunteer Board of Directors administers KFCB as a non-profit 501c3 organization, with support from several corporate sponsors and members.   The KFCB Board meets every third Thursday of the month at 3:30 pm.; they coordinate information regarding events, memberships, business sponsorships, and volunteers.

KFCB maintains a public resource library in our office that allows teachers, parents and students to sign out environmental education tools.  Resources in the library include reference books, videos, CDs, posters, kits, puzzles and brochures.  Items are provided free of charge through a sign out process by the Keep Forsyth County Beautiful Staff.

KFCB holds programs for the community in cooperation with local citizens and schools.  The organization also facilitates environmental education programs to county students and teachers including T.E.A.M. (Teach, Encourage And Model) Recycling programs.

While public information from KFCB is available all year round, there are several annual events hosted to incorporate volunteer participation and public awareness of environmental issues.  Some of our annual events have included: Bring One For the Chipper Christmas Tree Recycling, The Great American Cleanup, Liberty Gardens Ceremony, Phone Book Recycling Contest, Volunteer Recognition Banquet, Adopt-A-Road Picnic, Litter Index, Rivers Alive Waterway Cleanup, America Recycles Day, and TEAM Recycling Workshops.

KFCB welcomes volunteers of all ages who are interested in participating in our programs, please contact us at 770-205-4573 or kfcb@forsythco.com.
