August 17th - 2-4 @ Dobbs Creek

The end of Summer means that school is here already. I will again coach the boys 6th grade South Forsyth Cagers basketball team. You will find below information about the Forsyth Cagers, my program and tryouts. After your review, let me know if you have an interest.

Since Forsyth County Schools do not allow 6th graders to play middle school ball, you may be wondering what the best preparation program is to help your child play basketball in Middle School and/or High School.

It is my experience that playing another year of rec basketball will not get your son where he needs to be and ready for 7th grade try-outs. This is due to the lower level of competition and rules that are not consistent with middle/high school ball. Even the best rec players are shocked when they start to play AAU level basketball. The changes in the game and intensity of the game are completely different.

In 07/08 our Cager team played 32 games in the Winter including competitors such as: Northview Titans, Roswell, St Pius, Pebblebrook, Mill Creek, Milton & Stephens. We also played an additional 50 games in the Spring against such AAU teams as the Atlanta Elite, Georgia Stars, Aftershock, and many more.

Our team worked hard and accomplished a high level of success winning a ranking in the top 15 teams Georgia state wide (D1 division) out of 61 teams. We played in many tournament championships and many of our boys were recognized by the tournament directors. The players worked very hard and improved far beyond where they started. The experience of practicing and playing at that level is priceless.

I have coached basketball since being a Graduate Assistant for the FSU womans team. I began the Cager boys program 4 years ago with the goal of teaching basketball and creating an AAU/YBOA competitive feeder team in Forsyth County.

As far as coaching style, I coach very hard and I am loud and push the boys hard. I do this on purpose to get the kids ready for whats to come. I teach high-level fundamentals, offensive and defensive methods. More importantly, I teach at the intensity it takes to compete at the highest level. If your son chooses to play, he will face the best athletes in the state and country. The size, speed and intensity of the boys we will compete with will require our players nothing but complete commitment to succeed.

If this sounds like a program you are looking for, please find further information below regarding the winter try-out in August. We have the try out early so that you will have time to still make other arrangements for the Winter basketball season if you do not make the team. Practice will begin in October.
If you have any questions, PLEASE feel free to call or contact me 770 205 2950. Let me know if you have an interest and want to talk further about it.

FAQ's
How long is the season
The Winter season will begin practice not long after we have chosen the team. The Winter season will end in mid February. We will then reform for Spring to play the AAU season which will go through the early Summer
What about practice
Practice like football is 3 x a week except if we have a game on a week night. Their will be some week night games but most on the weekend.
Practice will be mainly @ Settles Bridge Elementary school.
Games
Most games are on the north side with some exceptions
Commitment
AAU level basketball is much more physically and mentally harder than both baseball and football, due to the fact you are competing against the biggest and fastest  in any sport. We do ask for a certain level of commitment to the team as you would show to travel baseball. The boys that play basketball take this very serious.

What is the deal why isn't schools letting sixth graders play sports, I am going through that here in Pittsburg Kansas. The school said KSHSAA was why they couldn't play, but I contacted them and they said it is up to the schools and their group of people, the only rule is no football, wrestling, and boxing. Parent's all need to step up and try to get their sixth graders back in athletics, their in middle school but not allowed to do anything like the other middle school kids. People keep complaining about our kids being couch potatoes yet the schools are making them that way, by not allowing them to play sports. Parents stand up for your sixth graders rights to be physically fit and their right to be treated equally.
