The summer junior tennis tournaments stay hot even though school is back in full swing. Cumming, Georgia is only one of a handful of local tournaments with Georgia’s standout players competing last weekend. USTA Georgia and tennis director James H. Harp are host to Windermere Summer Breeze Jr. Championships 2007 with a draw of over 100 players.
A short trip to Windermere proved good for Shelby King, not dropping a set in her first two matches in girls 12s. Sean Wood, seeded #1 in the boys 16s had a quick day with two matches.. Alyssa Hanson, local favorite, had a great day also. She will play her final match against Suwanee’s Lauren Melendez. Andrew Fish of Alpharetta played some great competitors on his way to the semi-finals taking out Forest Schwartz of Dunwoody 6-3 6-3.
“The US Open is an experience that any tennis enthusiast should have the chance to see, but watching local junior tennis in Georgia, like James Harp’s event; well, we are watching kids that will have a chance at that one day," smiles Beth McCaskill, "I like watching the process!”
