South Forsyth High School graduate, Shannon Agnew, is no stranger to winning. During her junior year in high school, Shannon led the women’s soccer team to the Final Four championship, and during her senior year she assisted the team to a runner-up win for the Georgia state championship.  In addition to these wins, Shannon was selected to All-County three times and was selected for All-State in 2004.

In 2005, during her senior year at South Forsyth High School, Shannon was recruited to play soccer for the University of Tampa.  Now she has a NCAA Division II national championship to add to her list of wins.  In response to winning the national title, Shannon said “It was a dream come true. My whole life I have dreamed of winning it all, but I never thought I would see the day. It was an indescribable feeling, one that I will never forget.”

Although the women’s soccer team at the University of Tampa is only 10 years old, in December the team showed the world that it has what it takes to win the national championship.  During regulation play the game remained scoreless but, after two overtime periods the Tampa Spartans took the 3-1 shootout victory from five-time national champ Franklin Pierce College, to claim Tampa’s first national title.  In addition to winning the national title, five of Tampa’s team members were selected for the All-American Team and the team’s keeper was named National Division II Player of the Year.
