Cumming, GA (January 23, 2012,) – On Saturday, February 11, fathers and sons, friends and alumni of Pinecrest Academy will join with men from all over the United States to tackle one of the “toughest events on the planet”, the Tough Mudder obstacle course.
Tough Mudders are team players who make sure no one gets left behind as the men test themselves through 10-12 miles of mud, fire, ice-water, and 10,000 volts of electricity. The event benefits the Wounded Warrior program, which is on the front lines of giving aid to severely wounded men and women who have fought to protect our freedoms overseas. To date, Tough Mudders have raised over $2 million for WWP.
It’s personal for retired Lt. Commander and Pinecrest dad, Pat Metz. His wife’s nephew, Anthony “Doc” Thompson, received a traumatic brain injury during his second tour in Iraq when a suicide bomber detonated a dump truck packed with 3,000 pounds of explosives under a bridge where he and five Marines stood post. Recently married, and with a son born while he was deployed, the young family has spent years in hospitals and rehab centers.
Metz will compete with two of his sons and other Pinecrest dads and alumni in February at the Aonia Pass MotoCross Park in Washington, GA. For more information on this event visit: toughmudder.com.
