September 26, 2011 (Forsyth County, GA) – Former state Representative Tom Knox formally announced on Monday his intention to run for state Representative of Forsyth County’s new District 26. Knox, a conservative Republican, represented Forsyth County in the state house from 2001-2010. Knox served as Chair of the Insurance Committee and Vice-Chair of the Judiciary Committee in the House. Knox left in 2010 to run for State Insurance Commissioner.

Knox said he is eager to return to the state House and continue serving the citizens of Forsyth County to reduce the size of government, lower taxes and spending, and return to constitutional principles.

Knox is an attorney and is a member of many organizations including: the Georgia Bar Association, Good Shepherd Church, Georgia GOP, Forsyth County Humane Society, Georgia Right to Life, Mentor Me Association, Conservative Tax Foundation, Americans for Prosperity, National Rifle Association, and Lake Lanier Association. He lives in Cumming on Lake Lanier with his wife, Michele and their beloved dogs.

<groan> The man who did little to secure our liberties and property now wants to serve and do little more.

Actually Bill, he did quite a bit to protect your liberties and property, but as usual, you mouth off with these trite little jabs before educating yourself with facts.

I neither feel compelled to educate you nor to rally for Tom Knox, so I will simply suggest that you look into property assessment freezes in this county, how they helped you, and how they came about.

Listening and learning is always better than verbal vomit.

Anna, educating Bill Evelyn is like educating a cat. It can't be done, and it simply frustrates the trainer.

I don't know where Bill gets his opinions from, but they have never been based on any factual knowledge of Forsyth County's political processes or players.

Tom Knox's record is one of consistently voting AGAINST legislation, even that proposed by so-called Republican legislators from this county.

Bill would know that if he knew - well - anything.

Bill, do us all a favor and please explain what Tom Knox did or didn't do to secure our liberties and property? If you are going to give an opinion please back it up with facts.

Tom Knox did a very good job the last time he was in the State House and would have made a heck of a State Insurance Commissioner.

Name one Bill or Resolution that Tom sponsored that would have;

  1. Negated the impact of the EPA in Georgia.
  2. Given us Legal Tender
  3. Negate the EPA and allow us to consume Raw Milk.
  4. Nullify Obamacare
  5. End worthless emissions testing in the state

But we do have rules how to euthanize cats, dogs, and pot belly pigs.

Maybe he would have been a good Insurance Commissioner as much of the legislation he introduced dealt with Insurance, so he knew this stuff obviously. We'll never know.

He did vote YES for HB 1316 the Fair Lending Act in 2002 which put a STOP to predatory lending, but unfortunately the Senate overrode this Bill in 2003 causing the Housing Bubble to explode.

I also believe he was instrumental in taking away my right to vote for all five Commissioners in the county. I think it was Mark Hamilton, Tom Knox and Jack Murphy that paved the way for this decision. The County is a small enough electorate that we can decisions on all five. Not any more.

The decision to take away our right to vote for all five Commissioners was a power grab by the Mayor of Cumming and it makes it more difficult to rid ourselves of Commissioners that make bad decisions. If four Commissioners vote to abuse me and my family, I can't get at them through the ballot box.

He was my rep and I know very well what he did and didn't do. He also never returned my phone calls or emails for nearly ten years.

Dave and Anna. I will give you this. Tom voted against HB 277 Transportation Act, which creates TSPLOST. This is huge as he recognizes this act is nothing but pure Socialism and taxation. This is good! Its the kind of thing that led me to vote for him, I think six times if my cycles are correct.

In my opinion he just doesn't apply himself to the right problems.

The primary focus of the General Assembly is govern us and protect us from unconstitutional mandates forced upon us by the Federal government. If it does not do this, why then do we have a state government - why not just let the Congress Idiots and bureaucrats in Washington DC tell us how to live our lives.

Tom introduced nothing to STOP unconstitutional Federal mandates from impacting me and you. You still aren't allowed to drink raw milk, next year you can't use 100w incandescent light bulbs, you still can't have a bank account in gold, your tax money still funds the chemicals, cutting tools, and materials for abortions. You still waste time and money getting emissions tests on your vehicles and your spending millions on the Fowler Shakerag Shakedown because the EPA still mandates in Georgia. Your children are still under educated with No Child Left Behind, because he didn't introduce legislation eliminating the Federal Department of Education in Georgia.

It's the job of the Forsyth County Commissioners to protect us from ridiculous mandates from the State Government. You are still required under penalty of arrest to shove children under 4' 9" tall and 40 lbs up to eight years old into a booster seat. Got that ... 4' 9" 40 lbs. Don't you think that should be a decision by parents. Did our Sheriff or Commissioners do anything about that?

Tom did not attempt to STOP one thing the Federal government has been doing to us the entire time he was in the General Assembly. He just went along to go along.

Dave Richard is quick to criticize people and that fact is well know. He pretends to be the authority of all things for all people, but many of us understand he lost his election precisely because he doesn't understand anything at all.

I have not been able to find any legislation of Tom Knox that did ANYTHING of value for the citizens of Forsyth County. He does not even want us to call him if we need information, we have to call some minion!!

Mr. Evelyn is right on one point, Tom Knox sure loves to help the insurance industry! My assumption is that the insurance lobbyists could not get him elected as Insurance Commissioner so they want him back in the house seat.

"Knox said he is eager to return to the state House and continue serving the citizens of Forsyth County..." could mean that he quit his job of [poorly] representing the citizens of Forsyth for bigger and better things. Had his butt handed to him and now, since his law practice is not doing much, wants his job and benefits back.

Oh yeah, Mr. Evelyn is right on another point. Our cats and dogs are much safer since the bastion of animal rights passed legislation to help them. WHOA!!! Animals have rights???

LMAO! You're going to have to teach all those animals to vote! Mr. Boff is teaching fish to vote so I'm sure you'll be able to pull it off!

Bill, you left out criminal rights legislation. Tom was a criminal defense attorney and sponsored a lot of criminal rights legislation. He apparently likes criminals as much as he does big insurance companies and puppies and kitties. Are we sure this guy is a Republican? His history is to serve lobbyists and House leadership, not to serve Forsyth County citizens.
