A lunchtime collision during heavy rain claimed the life of a Cumming man today.
According to Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Specialist Phil Alexander, the victim was Scott Michael Ehrenborg, age 23, of Azalea Circle in Cumming. Ehrenborg was killed instantly.
Alexander said Ehrenborg was traveling north on Peachtree Parkway (Hwy. 141), near Stoney Point Road, in his 2001 Nissan Frontier pickup truck, when it drifted across the center turn lane and struck a southbound 18-wheeler nearly head-on. The collision caused a diesel fuel tank on the 18-wheeler to rupture, spilling over 100 gallons of fuel onto the roadway.
Peachtree Parkway was shut down for several hours while a hazmat crew cleaned up the spilled fuel and the wreckage was removed.
The 18-wheeler was driven by Granvil Adams, age 58, of Pulaski, TN. Adams was not injured.
A heavy rain was falling at the time of the wreck, which occurred at 12:40 p.m. An investigation is continuing to determine why Ehrenborg’s truck ventured across the road into oncoming traffic.
Ehrenborg and Adams were alone in their respective vehicles.
