For the second time in four years the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office has captured top spot in the nation for its efforts in promoting traffic safety.
The award was presented to Forsyth County Sheriff Ted Paxton and Lt. Jody Chapman at the 2007 International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conference last week in New Orleans. Lt. Chapman is asst. commander of the Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division.
Sheriff Paxton said the agency took #1 honors in its size category of the IACP Law Enforcement Challenge Program. The Challenge Program is a competition between similar-sized law enforcement agencies across the nation. The Sheriff’s Office previously won first place in 2004. Police departments and sheriff’s offices across the nation compete annually for this coveted award.
Sponsored by the IACP, the Law Enforcement Challenge Program recognizes and rewards the best overall traffic safety program in the United States. The areas of concentration include efforts to enforce laws and educate the public about occupant protection, impaired driving and speeding. The winning safety programs are those who combine officer training, public information and enforcement to reduce crashes and injuries within its jurisdiction.

When I see promotions like this I would like to puke.
When a defunked Sheriff is defunked they get awards and promotions.
I know this to be a fact. I was one of them once.
I will not support this kind of false propaganda crap.
The people here in Forsyth better wake up. Its only getting worse.
This is a real joke. My street is more dangerous then ever before. They really do do anything. You can drive as fast as you please in this county. There are illiagals every where. The deputies are way under payed. paxton is there to just get his check. you should pay closer att. to the real facts.
How do you award the following; 1. Failure to use turn signals 2. Failure to stop at a stop signal (light or sign) 3. Failure to execute a left hand turn within 300 ft of the intersection. 4. Driving on the left side of a double yellow line. These are just a few of the traffic infractions that can be witnessed multiple times along rt 141 between rt 9 and Mcginnis ferry rd and this is only between 7:00 and 9:00 in the morning. I'm sure the county has a great safety program. I just don't see the effort being put forth here.
