Georgia DOT announces a resurfacing project scheduled to start Monday, May 7th as weather permits in Forsyth County. State Route 9 from State Route 369 to the Forsyth Lumpkin County line will be resurfaced.

“Crews will begin work Monday morning patching the existing asphalt. They will start on State Route 9 at State Route 369 and work northward. Crews will be utilizing a pilot car to lead traffic through the work zone weekdays from 8:30am to 4:30pm. No work will occur around the schools between 2:30pm and 3:30pm so our work won’t interfere with school traffic,” explained Teri Pope DOT Communications Officer.  “After about a month, work will switch to overnights. Crews will then work from 7:00pm overnight to 6:30am the next morning. During this overnight work they will be placing the top layer of asphalt called the topping. It is exacting work and they need a longer work window to get it done so crews will work overnight.”

The estimated construction cost of this resurfacing project is $2.8 million and a total of 15.3 miles will be resurfaced by the completion date of December 31, 2007.

“Drivers can expect delays in the area throughout construction. Please check our traffic information website for details on lane closures for this and all DOT projects – www.georgianavigator.com” concluded Pope.

Cingular, Verizon and Sprint PCS customers can dial *DOT (*368) and AT&T customers can dial #DOT (#368) for current traffic information.  Motorist can also check www.georgianavigator.com for construction alerts, accidents and other traffic interruptions.
