Georgia DOT, faced with requests from the public to relieve congestion at GA 400 Northbound Exit 12, hopes to have done just that by reconfiguring the lanes to allow for each exit (12 A-East and 12 B-West) to have their own exit-only ramp.

Tremendous back-ups at the exit occurred do to the length of the exit ramp at 12 A-East. A bottle-neck was created due to traffic being delayed by those exiting at 12 A- East and 12 B-West because drivers were forced to get off the exit and only one through lane remained on Northbound GA 400. In order to alleviate it, the DOT asked the contractor to look at extending the exit-only lane to 12 B-West which allowed two through lanes on GA 400 Northbound, easing traffic congestion in the area.

Georgia DOT will be opening the extended lane to exit 12-B West at 10 am, Friday morning to allow traffic exiting 400 Northbound East or West to each have an exit-only lane. There are no overhead signs identifying the new changes at this time; those will arrive and be installed in the coming months. In the meantime, the Georgia DOT will use message boards to notify the traveling public of the changes.
