ATLANTA –October 31st will bring ghosts and goblins, trick or treating and the usual dose of heavy traffic. The Georgia Department of Transportation urges travelers to be safe on Halloween and remember to use Georgia 511 for free traffic and travel information 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Callers connect to the system by simply dialing 5-1-1 from any landline or mobile phone. 511’s extensive menu of options provides statewide traffic conditions and route-specific information such as road or lane closures, construction, incidents and weather. Estimated travel times are also available for major roads within the metro-Atlanta area.

“With Halloween falling on a weekday, we know from experience that the evening commute will be hectic,” said Mark Demidovich, Assistant State Traffic Engineer. “GDOT urges travelers to check Georgia 511 for up-to-the-minute traffic information before heading out for Halloween festivities. As always, please remember to slow down and watch for children.”

In addition to roadway information, Georgia 511 callers can access transit providers, major airports, rideshare organizations, Georgia tourism information, and 511 systems in neighboring states. An automated voice recognition system guides the service, but callers can also reach live operators to report accidents, request HERO assistance or obtain additional information.
