My name is Bill Jenkins and I'm running for tax commissioner because I believe it's time for conservative leadership. We're facing some very difficult economic times in Forsyth County and across this great nation. There are many people living in our county today struggling financially to simply make ends meet. And during these times of rising property taxes and soaring gas prices we need conservative leadership now more than ever. We need County leaders who will work to reduce the cost of running our local government. As your tax commissioner, I promise I will tighten department spending, reduce the operating budget and spend only the minimum amount necessary to efficiently operate the tax office without jeopardizing the service provided to our citizens.
During several surveys, people leaving the tax offices were asked by county employees, “how was the service?” The most frequent answer given was, “the service was OK, but you have too many people sitting around doing nothing.” I will cross-train county employees to support many different job functions so we do not have to continuously add new employees each time work loads increase or job assignments change. I will pull all the county issued credit card and process the purchase of tax office supplies and equipment through the Forsyth County’s purchasing department to ensure that our taxpayers are paying the lowest possible cost.
The uncollected, delinquent taxes have reached an all time record high - over 7 million dollars - an increase of 31% in just the past three years. I will cross-train and re-assign existing tax office employees to positions totally dedicated to the aggressive but fair collection of these delinquent taxes.
As your tax commissioner I will not accept gifts from landowners or county vendors. I will not profit from delinquent tax sales by purchasing property in a business partner or relative’s name.
If elected, effective January 1, 2009 taxpayers funds will no longer be used to buy lunches for the tax commissioner or the tax office staff. I will strictly follow Forsyth County’s Civil Service Policy and never pay employees hundreds of thousands of taxpayers’ dollars for work not performed. Payment of compensation that is in direct violation of Forsyth County’s Civil Service Policies that is inconsistently applied throughout the county exposes the county to serious legal challenges.
I will work with county leaders and open more satellite branches in key areas for public convenience. I will provide citizens with the help they need to understand their tax bills and the tax exemptions they are entitled to. I will keep an open door policy so every citizen can speak with or meet with their tax commissioner. I will be accessible. I will serve the people of Forsyth County with honesty and integrity.
Under my leadership, As a Republican and fiscal conservative, money spent by the Tax Office will be spent in the public's interest. The election is July 15th. Please consider your vote carefully. For more information on my campaign, visit www.votebilljenkins.com.

But will you pledge that you will not accept free home lots for affirmative votes or special favors. I faxed to you Bill several years ago a thirty page report that outlined why there is plenty of speculation that you accepted a home lot from a developer who could have bribed you for an affirmative vote on his construction project. I faxed every page to you and asked for your response. I never received a response Bill. Can you respond to those thirty pages now so that these readers can see if you are actually the man we can trust now but couldn’t trust while you were are county commissioner?
I want to be dead level square with you on this request Bill. If you can provide all the transaction documents where you actually paid for your home lot then I will have them verified and if they are genuine I will vote for you. This is the price for my vote.....honesty....how about it Bill will you provide those documents for us to look over?
While we are at it, let's ask Bill why he can't simply produce a high school diploma? His lack of education coupled with circumstances described in the earlier posted comment is proof that he can't be trusted now nor could he while he was a one term commissioner. Mr. Jenkins talks a big talk, but can not deliver.
Mr Jenkins, I think you are off on your numbers for the delinquent taxes. 100% of the delinquent taxes have been collected. I guess that is just a typo like your web site that says you will implement online bill paying if elected. Online bill payment has been offered for the last 2 years in the Tax Commissioners Office. What is your problem, do you think the Taxpayers in Forsyth County are stupid?
Mr. Jenkins- How would you know what the most frequent comments are from customer's exit surveys? You are just making things up to discredit the current tax commissioner, and you should find another strategy before you find yourself in more hot water. You don't seem to have an original thought to put out there. Your campaign platform is full of ideas that are already in place in the tax commissioner's office. Online tax payments...already done. Cross training of employees...already done. Delinquent tax division...already done. Get your facts straight. Do you think the taxpayers are stupid enough to give you another shot at county government? you had your chance and you blew it.
Looks like 'ol Bill is reverting to his old deceptive tactics. Jenkins and Bowen have proven time and time again they cannot be trusted. An old crook with no high school diploma, with a kidnapper for a campaign manager. Forsyth County politics as usual I'm afraid.
This guy was booted from office with a RESOUNDING thud 8 years ago. Why can't he and his ilk PLEASE just go away? Things are being run very nicely for a change. I don't feel like the people want to revert to the days of Jenkins/Bowen.
A return to the dark ages. That's what a vote for Bill Jenkins represents.
This joker and his fellow conspirators presided over one of the most embarassing Board of Commissioners this county has ever seen. Remember those times? Scandals, threats, bribes, corruption, payoffs, personal vendetas, ethics violations and just plain shameful behavior were the order of the day.
Elect Bill Jenkins? I think not. We've suffered enough under his leadership. I agree with the previous poster, it's time for these losers to just go away.
How many times must this clown get beat before he gets the message? Forsyth County does not need nor want his services.
Mr. Jenkins says he is a "proven professional you can count on".
He also says he has a Princeton Education but, according to the AJC, he doesn't even have a High School Diploma or GED. Maybe it's easier to get into Princeton than I thought. I bet he couldn't even find Princeton on a map.
Is this misleading, resume padding an example of the professionalism we can "count" on? Forsyth County deserves better.
We already have a well qualified, professional incumbent Tax Commissioner who, based on my experience, is doing a fantastic job. I have never been treated as well in a government office as I have been in the Forsyth County Tax Commissioner's Office. They are consistently under budget and have a qualified, helpful, friendly staff. I for one wish to say thank you to Mr. Ledbetter for a job well done.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
I wouldn't vote for Jenkins for dog catcher.
Who is this guys campaign manager? What a laughable strategy he has. All the improvements he promises to bring about if elected have long been completed. All he can do is come up with old ideas and lame accusations. Mud slinging at its worst.
Oh, and have you noticed where his campaign signs are located? Weed patches, vacant land and abandoned lots. Apparently nobody wants to be associated with this clown. Wise decision.
I have NEVER heard anyone say that their experience at the Tax Commissioner's office was just "OK"... All I have heard was that, "that was quick", "That the TCO was the best county office they have ever been to", " that they are very personable", "that they have never been to a tag office so quick, easy and enjoyable", and on top of that, I am sure this GREAT service is due to the fact that he employees of the office are treated right.... They always have smiles on their faces, and are very enjoyable throughout the entire process. I am sure there is not a single "put-on" smile at that office. They just seem happy to be there. If county employees are not happy, why would they care if we the tax payers or the citizens in general are happy? We have a good thing going here, THERE'S NO NEED FOR CHANGE!
In defense of Truth...Bill Jenkins receive from his military service a high school equivalent that was recognized by two well known universities I understand from the Elections Board.
You folks need to find another gripe because that one really doesn't fly...sorry but you could ask Bill to produce his home lot records to proof that he actually paid for it as opposed to it being a suggested bribe from D.B..
SPLOST 6
Jim Boff... DIDN'T EVEN SERVE HIS OWN DISTRICT!!!
Serving on the committee are Jim Boff (District 1 representative); Charles I. Smith (District 2 representative); Bob Charles (District 3 representative); Charles Cantrell (District 4 representative); Ernest Turner (District 5 representative); Tracy Moon (Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce representative); and John Manton (senior community representative).
My comments... I did not mean to sling any mud earlier. I never meant to offend anyone or hurt anyones feelings. I saw that information on a web page and would of liked to know how to serve on a committee and it not be in the district you live in. Which were answered by Boff and Smith. Some of the other comments got spun way out of control and some were not signing their name and I said somethings I am embarressed about... I want to apoligize to you Jim Boff for those comments - I AM SORRY!!!
