If the recount of the electronic ballots is off by 1 vote, that raises a LOT of issues. I really hope (for the sake of elections everywhere) that that is not the case.

I do not know how many paper ballots were used but since there were so few (and past elections had thousands counted by hand) I do not think those would be off by many.

As for the number of ballots issued, what would be legitimate reasons that those would differ from the number of votes cast? Those only voting for clerk of court maybe?

I voted for Boff, and am glad to see that he won. Too bad his victory will always have the dark cloud of Gary Smith hanging over it.

The official results showed 33 blank ballots were cast for the District 5 race. In the clerk of superior court run-off election 607 ballots were left blank.

Gary J. Smith, chief voter registrar and elections board chairman, said there is no way to prove intent on a blank ballot and often, people choose to vote for one race, but not another.

It appears that Mr. Boff wins? Not until the recount is done.

I can not answer the Gary Smith question or on his employees. Since he was there last week I would assume you know that he/his employees are off this week? In every department across the land there is someone on vacation right now due to school start times, why does this department matter? If anything, based in what you said about Gary, it may be good that he is out on vacation at this time and only coming in for the important stuff.

Gary Smith did not hurry the certification, it is standard operating procedure and it has been done the same way in past elections. The board of elections certified it.

It takes a lot of hard work to run two elections in one months time, especially with official turnarounds for ballots and setting up machines. You wouldn't know that parking your behind on a seat at Mr. Swiss every day. Those on vacation are taking them because they EARNED it.

Charlie Laughinghouse can't tell anyone to keep away from voting machines. He is one vote on a board of five. The board did NOT accept the recommendations of the "audit" done on Gary Smith by Bates Carter, nor did we vote on any of the recommendations. Mainly because the audit was severely flawed.
