Frances Estelle Hughes Anglin

Frances Estelle Hughes Anglin, an avid supporter of the Dawson County Fall Festival and devoted mother, passed away April 7 at her home with her children by her side.  She was 83.
 
One of eight children, Mrs. Hughes Anglin was born December 25, 1924 in Lumpkin County, Georgia.  She was the daughter of the late Frank and Samatha Jones.  Her bothers included Roy Jones; Poole Jones; Jimmy Jones; Millard Jones; Dawson County, Charlie Jones of Forsyth County and her sisters were Iva Rider of Lumpkin County and Ethel Staton of Dawson County, all deceased.
 
She is preceeded in death by her first husband James C. Hughes, who was a member of the Georgia House of Representives, and the father of her five children.
 
Mrs. Hughes Anglin is also preceeded in death by her second husband, Leland Anglin, a World War II Veteran of Forsyth County.
 
She is preceeded in death by a son, Jay Hughes of Dawson County.
 
For many years, Mrs. Hughes Anglin participated in Dawson County's Fall Festival and was a promoter of its success.  She also was a nature-lover, who enjoyed maintaining her farm in the southern section of Dawson County.
 
Her favorite hobby was the selection, design and creation of numerous quilt patterns.  Her artwork was known throughout the nation and Canada.  Her special patterns were entitled The Little School House, Step-Around-The Mountain, The Star and her famous Double Wedding Ring which was a wedding gift to one of the Oak Ridge Boys.
 
She is survived by three daughters and a son:  Jan Hamilton, Dawson County, Dawson Co. 4th District Commissioner Julie Nix, Gene Hughes, Dawson County and Cheryl and Tod Cole, Simi Valley, California.
 
She is survived by four grandchildren:  Wyatt Anthony and Tonya Nix of Forsyth County;  Vincent John Hamilton, New York, New York;  Ryan Lamar and Cara Nix of Deming, New Mexico and Ciera Cherilyn Elizabeth Cole, Simi Valley, California.
 
Mrs. Hughes Anglin is also survived by one great granddaughter, Miss Mya Ansleigh Nix, age 3.
 
Bearden Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements with a memorial service at Harmony Baptist Church with interment at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens last Thursday, April 10.
 
The family respectfully request in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to St. Joseph's Mercy Foundation, Atlanta, Georgia and Atlanta Two Day Cancer Walk.
