If you've had enough about our local elections, You'll be happy to know that its almost over. The 2008 primary results are in, and its official, we are going to have some new faces on the board of commissioners, and the school board next year. The primary winners still need to win in the general election, but in most cases, they will be running unopposed. Most candidates can rest easy until November, but a few are facing a runoff on August 5th. Here's how it all went down on July 15th.
In the race for schoolboard, the incumbent Chairperson Nancy Roche and Vice Chair Tom Cleveland were both re-elected for another four years. Lifetime resident Darla Light won the open seat in district 4, and will face the democrat Shiela Elliot in the general election this November.
Sheriff Paxton gets to keep his job, and so does Coroner Lauren McDonald and Tax Commissioner Matthew Ledbetter
Things didn't go quite as well for Dave Richard in the county commissioners race. Richard was defeated by challenger Patrick Bell. Patrick will square off against Jon Flack in November.
District 2 commissioner Brian Tam pulled off a rare feat, holding back 3 opponents to win re-election without a runoff.
And in District 5, its Jim Boff who garnered the most votes, but not enough to win outright. Boff faces 2nd place finisher Julie Tressler in a runoff on August 5th.Also headed for a runoff are clerk of court candidates Greg Allen and Charles Adams.
A big congrats to all the candidates for thier hard work. As for Jim Boff, Julie Tressler, Greg Allen, and Charles Adams...its back to work for 3 more weeks to face a runoff on August 5th.
Remember, you can vote in the runoff even if you missed the election on July 15th.
Advance Voting is being held from July 28th to August 1st at five locations throughout the county from 8:00 am to 4:30pm
No matter where you live in the county, you can vote at any of these locations during advanced voting.
* Cumming Public Library, 585 Dahlonega Hwy Cumming, GA 30040
* Sharon Forks Public Library, 2820 Old Atlanta Road Cumming, GA 30041
* F.C. Public Safety Complex 3520 Settingdown Road Cumming, GA 30028
* Midway Park, 5100 Post Road Cumming, GA 30040
* Forsyth County Administration Building
If you prefer to vote the old fashioned way, Polls will be open in 32 election precincts on August 5th, from 7am to 7pm. Results should be available within a few hours of Poll closing on the 5th.

ALRIGHT BELL!!!!! WAY TO GO!!!! YOU BEAT SCUMBAG RICHARDS!
Once upon a time, in a county... far, far away D. Richards said... (among other things)
"This is all about petty politics. "
" [elected official ] ...never forgives anyone who disagrees with him (and I've certainly had my disagreements with him),
and he will work to the detriment of this county to make sure that people who don't agree with him are shut out of any process. "
Monsieur Richards, which one of your "Generous Thoughts" was that ?
Mr. Pott, i would like to introduce you to Mr. Kettle Black [ for richards supporters, dave richards plays the role of Mr. Pott ].
all i can say is, that the Power or Prayer really does work,
Auf Wiedersehen Professor Doktor Goebbels, oops i mean Comm Richards.
Sayonara, Tokyo Rose, woops I mean former Comm Richards.
The Forsyth County Propaganda Machine will [hopefully] take an extended vacation now, unless his friends and colleagues (please see below) keep coming back, in the middle of the night, under cover of darkness, in their wanna-be Ninja outfits...
?? ...is there still a SALE going on for Men's Shorts up at the North Georgia Outlet Mall ??
oh, and as to the "philosphical underpinnings" of your dilettante colleagues...
One of your colleagues recently suggested that:
"There’s an old saying that sometimes you are known better by your enemies than by your friends."
no truer words have recently been written or spoken. [ i think Gray contributed these words here at Cummin' Home.com on July 14, 2008, at 10:30am ]
Fantastic that Monsieur chose the Quatorze Juillet, or 14th July, the National Holiday of France, Bastille Day to post his philosophical contribution. Like so many other thoughts "borrowed" or stolen from folks who wrote or said them long ago...
Well, one day after the anniversary of the date that the French mobs stormed the Bastille Prison in Paris, i declare that Monsieur Smythe may be correct, one may in fact be judged by the company one keeps (step carefully then, Monsiuer Richards).
Adieu Monsieur Richards, adieu Monsieur Smythe (one can only HOPE )
Tomorrow - well at least early January is another day.
oh, and Monsieur Gray, i cannot remember... how DID that Primary turn out between Bob Barr and John Linder, the one in which you declared that Bob Barr would put the "smack down" on the quiet, reserved, but successful businessmann and co-author (along with N. Boortz) of the FairTax book?
and... i cannot remember... Could Monsieur Richards or Monsieur Schmidt share with the readers how the 2006 GOP Primary race for Lieutenant Governor - the one the "guaranteed, shoe-in winner" Ralph Reed and that little-known fellow from Hall County -- how did that turn out agian ??
was that feller's name Casey Cagle??
it is ABSOLUTELY true... One can be judged by the company one keeps.
John Linder has a great memory. So does the Lieutenant Governor of our great State of Georgia.
The voters of Forsyth County will hopefully soon begin to understand that, even though we consistently turn out the highest percentage of GOP primary votes for the SUCCESSFUL candidates for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, United States Congressmen, etc.
we will remail laughingstocks within the statewide Republican Party, unless and until we stop picking the former Chairmen of local Libertarian parties to run as turncoats, fake Republicans... and stop cow-towing to Goebbels-type former leaders of our local county-level GOP.
[disclosure: i do like and respect members of the local LPG here in Forsyth County, the ones who are not turncoats, as is Monsieur Richards].
Wake up, smell your coffee, come out the next time there are GOP Precinct meetings, and the GOP County Convention.
It is time that our county gets a decent hearing in state-wide conversations, and that we stop being ignored because of some of the folks who have been "leaders" of the Republican Party of Forsyth County.
y'all have a nice week now, ya hear ???
Congratulations to all the winners. Congratulations to Patrick Bell. A win for Patrick Bell Is a big win for Forsyth County. I wish David Richard all the best in his personal life. But, the majority of the voters saw David Richard as way too immature to be a county commissioner. His pandering to groups such as smartgrowth while telling voters in his own district "I won't miss your vote," and also calling voters idiots, morons, yahoos and drooling imbeciles lost the election for him. People are not going to vote for someone who calls them derogatory names. But, I'll bet you David Richard is scratching his head this morning wondering why he lost the election. Speaking disparagingly of respected institutions such as the YMCA and Boy Scouts of America just doesn't sit well either. But go tell Richard that.
Yes, David Richard doesn't know why he lost. Read his explanation at davidrichard.info
Congratulations, Patrick.
David, thank you for your four years of service to Forsyth County.
Congrads Tam and Bell...
Sayonorra Richards... adios. You still don't get it and never will. I hear the outlet mall calling your name full time.
You know, based on some of the comments above, some people should just not drink after midnight (if at all).
I wonder if it has occured to Commissioner Richard, soon to be former, that if we voted by district - as he opposed- then he might have been re-elected? Oh well, be careful what you wish for -
Yes, but it still would have been the wrong way to go. Wrong is wrong, whether it might benefit you or not. Some people just don't get that simple concept.
I am happy to see what almost everyone is nice about a victory/defeat.
Wayne Plummer, I see you still hold grudges. You lost your election years ago despite all those "connections" and you were bought and paid for in the last election cycle. Given the time of the posting you must be drunk again and on the internet. You have done that before and there is evidence recorded. Dangerous.
Yeah ....75% yes and 25% no….the voters are wrong. It may never occur to you that you may just actually be wrong sometimes, even when the majority of voters say otherwise. But then again, why should anyone listen to you anyway? In the opinion of this knuckle-dragger, you are just a no-count has-been loser. I wonder if the spineless Hitler appeaser-like one and the bone headed insensitive boob are secretly breathing a sigh of relief this morning?
Must every election discussion turn into anti Richard?
Congrats to all the winners last night.
RUN-OFF TIME: Boff versus Tressler, Adams v Allen. Keep it clean. Keep it positive.
Remember, freedom is never free.
David, Just stop sticking your pointy little fingers in everything. Take your medicine and move on. You know Patrick Bell is going to do the right things for Forsyth County so just shut up.
I do agree that voters got complacent. Turn out was very low. I would have expected that because there was no election races that would draw people out (senate, congress, governor, lt gov, state senate, state house). It was all very boring.
Four years ago the same thing happened. Because two years prior to that Laughinghouse got elected against a campaign-wealthy incumbent, two years later (four years ago) candidates assumed similar change would happen. It did not.
Two years ago... ...the balance on the commission shifted from pro-development to slow growth. ...the school board race against the incumbent was a huge effort Two years later/present day REPEAT.
When this election season started I had a completely open mind. Then I listened, and read and attended everything I could to become more educated about the candidates.
Honestly, I find it outrageously humorous that the Bell supporters spent the entire campaign flinging cow patties at Dave Richard. What Bell and his supporters did was WAY worse than anything Dave ever did. Between their rantings, outright lies, and the need to malign Smart Growth.....they completely lost any credibility with anyone who was TRULY paying attention.
Bell ranted and showed his "buttocks" during the Smart Growth debate, and then tried to cover it by having one of his CRACK POT supporters write an article in Cumming Home stating the Smart Growth had rigged the debates. PULEEEEZ!
Because of the total immaturity and lack of respect Bell and his group showed, I will be crossing party lines and voting Democrat this year. GO JOHN FLACK! Heck, I'm even going to campaign for him! "Yo John, where's my yard sign????"
I think Brian Tam won because he ran a clean campaign and got his voters to the polls.
I think David Richard lost because the voters rejected being told what to think, by either Richard or his supporters. One has to listen TO the people, not talk AT them, to be an effective leader. That, and simply treating people as you would want to be treated makes a successful leader. Not insulting people and acting as if you know all and they know nothing, even when that is sometime the case. Humility goes a long way.
I think Patrick Bell won because he was not David Richard.
I think Mike Busse lost because he took some bad advice from some people who believe the end always justifies the means. (It doesn't.) Sometimes those who complain the most about the "kool-aid" are actually the ones mixing the most potent batch. Busse would do well to start thinking more for himself.
All I can say is ....
Thank You Mr. Richard for your 4 years of service. I think you would make a GREAT activist, but not one that holds office. So keep stirrin' the puddin and make everyone else THINK!
Congrats to Patrick Bell, I think he ran a smart and effective campaign, wilth all due respect to the naysayers. Say what you want about Smartgrowth, they have lost all credibility with me!
Very disappointing on the School Board, the low turnout did not work to the people's favor. We had an opportunity for change, and the voters were complacent. Oh well, the people will have to regroup and get another people's choice in the next election for the Forsyth School Board. Pay attention to the District 4 race for the school board..Light vs Elliott......I think this will be interesting come November. Go Elliott!!!
Scumbag,
What are you going to do with yourself now that you lost? Apparently no one who votes (the whole 18%) wanted you as commissioner... what goes around comes around!
Oh Mr. Richard, another Thought
We know how much you gave Linda Ledbetter heck with your pointy fingers, and despite your chagrine, Tressler will be able to hold her own in the Boys Club of the County Commission.
Goooooo Tressler!
Educated voter,
You sound a lot like the defeated one. No, I don't believer you are. But you do sound like him. Patrick Bell did not need to makign SmartGrowth. They did it to themselves!
How much credibility does an organization have when it chooses an ex-con who plead guilty to bid rigging as its moderator? How much credibility does it maintain when it learns that its handpicked moderator has lied to a candidate? SmartGrowth (which I will nowpermanently refer to as DumbGrowth) maligned itself.
I said before the election if DumbGrowth did not apologize for its actions that I would make it a point to discourage ALL future candidates from participating in their debates. I DO NOT FORGET!
As badly as I wanted to see David Richard defeated, I believe I was the first one on this website to thank him for his four years of serice to Forsyth County.
Compare that to the remark he made last night about the county has just elected a serial liar. What a class act he is! I guess he voters of Forsyth County are just too stupid to appreciate a quality commissioner like Dave Richard.
No Debra, I am not "the defeated one". I am a citizen who stumbled across Smart Growth a couple of years ago when I was addressing an issue the was going to greatly impact my neighborhood. Those kind, selfless and intelligent VOLUNTEERS spent hours helping me navigate the red tape of County Government, just as they have for hundreds of other citizens who are lost in the bureaucracy of a county that is growing too quickly. For that they have my unending gratitude and respect.
I personally was not out campaigning for Dave Richard. I am just disgusted with the Bell camp.
Period
Congrats to all who won and good luck to those in the runoffs.
I have to thank David for 4 years of not being in anyone's pocket. He did what he believed was best for the county, whether I agree with him or not on those issues.
I wish Patrick a successful 4 years ahead and am sure he'll do well.
The fact the so few voters turned out is surprising, but what can we expect when so many folks relocate and never take an interest in this county.
TerryB, "Very disappointing on the School Board, the low turnout did not work to the people's favor. We had an opportunity for change, and the voters were complacent."
The people voted. You and Dave Richard say voters were complacent. I see you both agree on this.
Hey Pops, Mr. Richard is right on that. I am not disagreeable all the time. The people were complacent on the School Board Issues, not enough folks got out the vote, given the amount of issues we have all had to deal with from the school board, it's very surprising the incumbents got back in. Oh Well, time to regroup!
Educated voter, it is a shame you allow 4 or 5 of us on this forum and one deabte make you cross party lines.
You know in the old days we wupported those that won as the peoples choice for the party.
Shame on you, you are an uneducated voter.
Bye y'all...I will sign off and keep an eye on things but I am happy with the turnout.
Jerry - at least I can spell.
I just want David Richard to know that I do not follow politics and I have no idea who Patrick Bell is. However, after reading some of David's posts and writings, I just know that I did not want him in the chair. What an "EGO" and a hot head and he never shuts up! I have never seen anyone so easy to bring in hook-line-sinker. It seems as though he spends 90% of his time fighting for his "good name" (whatever that is) and only 10% working for us. That is why he lost, Bell didn't win...Richard lost! With Richard, everything is black and white and there is no gray area. You can't run a community that way. I would say it was like Andy and Barney. Richard wants to run the town like Barney and the people want it run like Andy. Dave Richard is definitely a Barney Fife. My political advice for Dave Richard is "Don't just fight all the fights you can win, fight the fights that need fighting". People will like you more and will want to vote for you then. Lastly, due to your lack of concern for the people of the county, you brought undue stress on the Hansard family and cost your taxpayers $85,000. Have you added that to your list of accomplishments?
To all my very good friends who may read this, I say a very big "thank you" for your vote and your belief in me. For the rest of you, a comment about the election.
To the person commenting using the ID "moore", please use another ID or add an initial...I do not want readers to think it is me.
Forgive me for believing enough in myself to think that I could actually be elected and that the people of Forsyth County wanted a change in District 2. Before I qualified to run, I went to many leaders to seek their opinion and thought I was encouraged by all, but now realize that they were being polite and kind and I thank them for that. I have always been quite naive when it comes to political matters.
While I must admit to all of you that I rarely have visited this site, my lovely wife encouraged me to read it of late. I am not one who likes to read anything about someone that is degrading or destructive, and it seems that many posts contain some of these remarks. My mother taught me "if you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all". That is not to say, I do not want to debate the issues, for I do. For example, Mr. Richard and I did not agree about the inter-governmental agreement with the City of Cumming. What I didn't realize was that my position was apparently so offensive to him, that he felt compelled to include me on his "Campaign Corner" piece at his website. I am sorry, but I cannot understand the concept that the majority of the BOC hold that, "the People of Forsyth have spoken", referring to the November Splost election, and therefore the City is entitled to only 4.29%. Are not the residents of the City of Cumming part of the people of Forsyth County? Why does it have to be an "us" and "them"? During my discussions with BOC members, where I was encouraging them to negotiate with the City, I mentioned that the Chamber President and Senator Murphy and Representative Hamilton were for an agreement, all I heard was, "They are City people". Wouldn't it make more sense to argue the real merits of the matter rather than pit one faction against the other?
Another very important aspect of this election is the Smart Growth factor. Having been very engaged with them in their fights for quality growth and the Walmart issue (even though after I qualified the present Board of Directors seems to have amnesia abut my involvement) I imagined that I would get solid support from that community. Especially since so many of our fights with the county seem to have been about poor, no, or mis-representation from Brian Tam. When I served as Chairman of The Homeowners Group, most of my dealings were with his assistant, Shawn. When consideration was given to dismiss her and others, I wrote Commissioner Harrell and Laughinghouse asking them to please keep her. Tam made it very clear to me that he did not have time by himself to devote to the issues in District 2 because it was growing so fast and the majority of issues coming before the BOC were in his district. Yet Smart Growth's Board decided that he had "grown" in his position and would be their choice. Had I known this before I qualified and seen evidence that this is in fact so, I would have supported him as well. I asked three other members of the BOC their opinion of Tam and all were thumbs down although in hindsight perhaps biased. I heard repeatedly he comes to workshops unprepared and quite often to the regular meeting having not even opened the Agenda. I believed them, but none of this came out in the debates.
If that wasn't enough, out came an advertisement and a mail-out piece with "The Names You Know", "The Leadership You Trust", in big bold letters across the page saying vote for Brian Tam, "We Are". I carefully read these names and for the most part they are names I know and certainly leaders I trust. Then, I was stunned. How could I have been so wrong about this election? I became somewhat disheartened...and felt out of touch. So, I met with some of these leaders to connect the dots. Wow, was I surprised. You remember the name of the clergyman from the very large church here in South Forsyth? Well, I attended that church for six months before deciding to join Johns Creek Baptist Church. I know him to be an outstanding man of faith and a great Christian leader. I believed that there was no way that he could have known about the "Armstrong Files" and the evidence contained therein that connected Tam to the firing of County Manager David Armstrong. I went to the church and met with an associate pastor to inquire and found that they in fact did not know of the files. However, now they do.
Without this site, I could not share these thoughts with you, yet, because of this site, I feel a very slanted view was carefully orchestrated that attempted to influence the outcome of the election. For the FCN to be accused of bias, or the major news media as well, is well known, but, I thought this site was different. I greatly admired and respected the principals. However, when I connected the dots between the present BOC Chairman and the candidates he was supporting with time, talent, and campaign contributions, I couldn't help but notice the frequency of favorable mention of these candidates. I do not know what effect this site had upon the election, if any, but I do know it was not balance and fair coverage of all.
Thank you Joseph for your thoughts. Many were and still are amazed at the so called "leaders" of the South Forsyth community and Republicans party supporting Brian Tam.
After two years of having things going well with our newly elected majority, that these folks just plain forgot Brian's first 2 years in office and his voting record then. I believe he did not vote seperately from Jack Conway for 23 months.
My thoughts all along were anybody but Tam. I thank you, Mike Busse, and Charlie Smith for your time and efforts. Let's hope Brian doesn't change his "coat" again and repeat his first several years in office.
I pray God's blessing for you and all the candidates.
I'm sorry, but did you say Tam won because he ran a clean campaign? Are we talking about the same Tam here? The one who bought votes? The one whos supporters were STEALING signs? The one who had almost 50% of his money from people that don't even live in Forsyth County? The only voters who went to the polls for Tam were ones who like having a crooked commissioner. I'm extremely disappointed that he was reelected. How many lies from him is it going to take for people to realize the type of person he is? Yes, I'd love to have a commissioner who doesn't even respond to emails or phone calls! Yes, I'd love a commissioner whos only agenda is whatever the MAYOR wants. Yes, I'd love a commissioner who is so crooked he can't even walk straight.
No thanks.
well, well, well... the R.G. Smythe crowd (a.k.a) "moore" above slithers out from under a rock again.
not drunk from alcohol, just drunk from happiness, joy. i was up late last night, only because like so many normal Forsyth County citizens i was so happy to have two blowhards put in their respective places (one, hopefully back under the aforementioned rock).
at least D.W. Richards has the guts to put his name out there, and "sign his work," Monsieur Moore.
sticks and stones, you know. cowards and anonymous posters can say whatever they like about me, whatever makes their smallish minds seem to grow larger, almost as large as a Georgia Peanut.
"moore," you are correct. against members of the Forsyth Lunatic Fringe (and you know who you are) i certainly do hold grudges - may God please forgive me.
against Mr. "i am always the smartest guy in the room, no matter how large or small the room" i will savor a grudge for a long, long time - may the Lord forgive me.
www.forsythtoday.com coming soon
www.forsyth-independent.com = this will be more fum than FORMER Commish Richards ever dreamed of having with his blog
call me, or meet me for coffee sometime - if you ever get over your cowardice, monsieur moore. your pal Richards knows my cellphone and home tel. i am sure he would give the numbers to you, so that you could make juvenile crank calls.
oop, gotta go. it is 5:30 p.m. in Forsyth County. guess that means cocktail hour starts in only 30 minutes
y'all be sweet now, and have a pleasant evening
Vote for Julie Tressler
I agree...Go Tressler. WE need a woman in the Boys Club
I agree 110%, a lady is needed to balance things out a bit. Besides, she is a smart person and I think she will work good with the other Commissioners.
If it was not for Sweeney and Waddel she very well may have won this race!
To Wayne Plummer: You are the true blowhard! You give your name because you are narcicisstic. I bet you read your comments by candlelight at midnight, "Monsieur". Yeah, I took elementary French too. I also took a 300 course in college. Does that make me smart?
And to the reference that Tam ran a clean campaign; since when does dirt equate to clean? Well, perhaps to pigs. Tam's hands are dirty and the color of the dirt is green.
Dave Richard: Thank you for four years of service and informing the public as best you could. If the public knew what you know, they would never have elected Tam. Unfortunately, the average citizen is uninformed and drives around town and looks at all the political signs and then go vote what they saw. A true form of Russian roulette. Tam had signs everywhere, how could they miss them? The question to ask is: Who paid for all of them? Or perhaps they were recycled signs that were stolen from the candidates opposing him. In this election, the voters found the bullet, and have shot themselves in the foot.
Mr. Bell: Who are you?! In South Korea they say the hidden enemy is the most dangerous. Dave Richard may have ruffled some feathers, but he was up front and transparent. What was your platform Mr. Bell? No one seems to know, except that you blasted Dave Richard and that's all I or anyone I know heard from you. You must have lots of friends in high places; well, on the throne of Cumming anyway. The average Joe citizen of Forsyth County doesn't know you.
Dave Richard shot straight from the hip and most people don't like it when it hits them square in the chest.
Beware Forsyth County Citizens; corruption bleeds slowly!
Don't forget to Vote on August 5th for the RunOff.
Let's not forget about the Clerk of Court Spot. Go Charlie Adams!!! Honest, Integrity, Experience..what more can you ask for!
my eyes are open... ah, another BRAVE soul, too embarrassed about your thoughts and opinions to state your true name?
You are undoubtedly VERY intelligent. you must be astoundingly astute, almost as smart as Gray and Dave, especially if you registered for a 300-level French class in college. i would never have had the courage to attempt such an academically challenging course.
I see that you think I am "narcicisstic." you are obviously much smarter that me, as i do not know what "narcicisstic" means.
i checked at www.wordsmyth.net
they did not know about "narcicisstic" either
-- Sorry, we could not find the word narcicisstic --
it must be one o' them big words that college graduates use, folks that advance so far as to register for upper-level French classes.
wordsmyth did return this result
"Were you looking for one of these words? narcissistic , narcissist
Possible reasons that this search failed:
Good Luck, future professeur de francais...
monsieur "eyes are open" ...You are obviously not only super-smart, but extraordinarily brave and courageous to attack folks anonymously.
at least your HERO... FORMER Commish Richards does have a modicum of courage. You would be well-served to look to his example.
y'all be sweet to one 'nother now. have a blessed evening

Boy, The world would be a much better place if we did not have blogs like this that allow anyone to be vicious and negative - and what does it solve? Thank you David Richard for your service to the County. As a 17-year resident, I have seen much change and many worse Commissioners. Good luck with your future plans.
Jim Boff said he thinks Julie should stay at home and mind the kids.
I think she's bright, articulate, pro-business and will make a great addition to the good ol' boys club that is the current Board of Commissioners.
Go Julie!!!
Wayne: the misspell was a dummy test; you passed it!
"Monsieur": oops! Forgot to tell you my real name: Suzy Smart!
i agree with Mr. Turpin: the World (certainly Forsyth County, GA) would be a much better place , if there were no blogs that that allowed anyone to be "vicious and negative."
worst offensive/offending example ??
Poor Richard's Blog - www.davidrichard.info
i was born at Chestatee Regional Hospital (for folks like Mr. Turpin who may not know where that is... it is north of Matt and Coal Mountain, even farther north than Auraria)
I have lived in Forsyth County for only a total of 22-23 years. after growing up in north Georgia, graduating elementary school in Lumplin, my Dad accepted a job in the worst haven for liberalism in the country - Massachusetts.
I was forced to spend the next 7 years of my life in Teddy Kennedy land... went into the Coast Guard for eight years. was able to come back to Atlanta for a new job, and then find a small farm in Forsyth County and move here in 1995.
since then I have watched Commissioners like Michael Bennett, Julian Bowen, Bill Jenkins, Andy Anderson, Ron Seder, John Kieffer, and a host of others do their best to serve the citizens of this county.
No Commissioner ever approached the level of arrogance, none displayed the divisivemess of D. Richards - not one. My 23 years living in this county ought to provide as much perspective as My. Turpin's...
Smart in Cumming, GA
S. Smart in the Cumming, GA metro area = nothing
S. Sma_ in Cumming, GA = nothing, no results returned
Only responses for S. Sma_ in Cumming, GA or
S. Smart in the Cumming, GA metro area were as follows:
Shirley Smart in Lawrenceville, GA age = 48 Stephen Smart in Atlanta, GA age = 37 Shirley Smart in Acworth, GA age = 51 Sheila Smart in Macon, GA age = 40
Might any of these local folks be relatives?
wow, I just found a Tony & Susan Smart in the new telephone directory that landed in our driveway yesterday. Lo and behold…
Tony & Susan Smart 10110 Wyndham Court, Suwanee
It must be that I searched for S. Smart. I did not know your husband’s name when I searched whitepages.com (if this is in fact the correct Suzy Smart)
If I call, could I meet you and buy you a cup of coffee?
Before you look, my telephone numbers are unlisted.
But if you wish to verify that my identity is real, and that I actually live in Forsyth County, please Email the owner/manager of this website. He has my cell number and home telephone number.
Or ask the Chairman of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners. Charlie knows where I live, and can therefore verify that I am a resident of Forsyth County. Charlie has my cellphone number. It would be fine with me, if Charlie were inclined to give you my contact info, Suzy.
Or easiest for you might be to consult with D. Richards, soon-to-be FORMER County Commissioner of Forsyth County “representing” District 4 on the north end of the county. Unless he deleted my cellphone number from his contact list (after I disagreed with him over ONE issue of local public policy – I realize that he has a ZERO tolerance policy for any opinion that does not align 100% with his own), Dave should have my cellphone number.
It would be a great pleasure for me to meet you, perhaps buy you that cup of coffee.
Maybe you could bring “moore” along with you. There may be a chance between the two of you that we could find a couple of ounces of courage. Heck, bring D. Richards and R. G. Smythe along (I apologize, if there are misspellings or typos) Among the four of you, one might be able to extract 5 or even 6 ounces of courage.
Oh, but thanks for suggesting that I might not be a “dummy,” since I may have apparently passed your dummy test. And I do most sincerely apologize for calling you “Monsieur eyes are open.” Had I known your real identity – i.e., if you had not used a fake alias, I would of course have referred to you as “Madame Eyes are Open.”
Again, my humblest apologies. If we work at it (which I am willing to do), we might elevate the tone of this discussion. That would be easier, if “moore” would identify him- or herself. People often are less in attack mode, if they use their real name. That is, of course unless you are the soon-to-be FORMER commissioner from the north end.
and “juan palmer” …please… (although I did get a laugh out of the pseudonym – congratulations! ) oh, for “moore,” pseudonym = ALIAS or pen name.
I m sure that Mme Smith took elementary French, she knows that one could also use “nom de plume” [literal translation being pen name. am I correct Mme Smith? It has been 27 years since my last French class, so I may need help from you from time to time]

Boff just needs to jump in a lake!! VOTE TRESSLER!!
Mr. Plummer When is your site going to be operating?
I see "elmo" and "Dale" (avid Bell supporters) are now on the Tressler bandwagon. Boff did not say anything close to the 'Julie should stay home' comment you are trying to attribute him to.
Dale aka Bill Johnson, creep back over the county line please. Is Patrick Bell also a "good ole boy" now?
Go Boff!!!
We need a woman in the County Commission Go Tressler!
Deerlake, I heard the comment that Dale mentioned, it didn't go over well with us ladies!
Who is wayne plummer anyway?
Why does he search whitepages for the addresses of people that post their real name and then POST the results here?
Why does he think he should meet every blogger for coffee?
Why does he think anyone should call the owner of this site, or the BOC chair just to get his phone number? Name drop city. We get rid of Richards and is this another online political ego we have to deal with now?
TerryB, Jim Boff made so such comment. Try to keep this clean from falsehoods and allegations. I know something will say anything to win (and some people will say anything to make them lose it seems!)
Aquafina, Wayne Dlummer ran for tax commissioner a few years back. It is odd how he says that drichards is soon to be an ex-commissioner when wayne himself ran for tax commissioner and did not come close - he was THIRD OR FOURTH
Deerlake, I said I heard the comment and I myself did not like it. That's a fact. I didn't like the comment. No falselhood or false accusation. It didn't sit well with me, as a woman.
Vote for Julie Tressler. She is an independent thinking person. She isn't a hand-picked "yes man" like Boff. She handled Laughinghouse's attack against her very well. Linda Ledbetter thought she could not be effective because of the current BOC's "majority" being discriminate against women. I don't think Julie Tressler will have that problem. For one reason, David Richard will no longer be on the board. He will not be calling her an "idiot" as he did Linda Ledbetter except as a private citizen. Patrick Bell has given his endorsement to Julie Tressler. I don't think their goal is to form a "majority" to control the outcome of all the votes, but to bring more ideas to the table.
Julie Tressler is just another "good 'ol boy" in a dress. TerryB: I am a woman! I don't vote for anyone who is standing in line for greenbacks, regardless of gender. Lynn: you say you don't think they are trying for a majority? Look at the pictures on Forsythnews.com. That is exactly what you had there. Bell and Tressler hand clapping each other along with Jack Murphy and Ledbetter. If that is not what a majority is, then what is? As for coffee Wayne, I would rather meet with all the women who respond on this site. Ladies, were you at the town meetings at all? Let's have coffee! Go Boff! Go Flack! Go anybody who can stop Tam!
"aquafina" - applaud yourself for your courage ...one MORE cowardly, anonymous poster
you are correct. i am a notorious name-dropper. but, as Larry the Cable Guy sez... " i apologize... "
i apologize to soon-to-be FORMER County Commissioner D. Richards
i apologize, if i have hurt the feelings of R. G. Smythe, or anyone else with a similar name - especially if anyone with a similar name has a fragile ego - which is unusual for a "rehabilitated" recreational user – or I am sorry, an “alleged” rehabilitated "purely recreational" user - who is one of the most cowardly bullies in north Georgia [see a photo on page 3 of today's Forsyth County News ]
oh, and I apologize to Suzy (eyes are open) Smart, also. may the Lord forgive me.
DeerLake --> i came in FOURTH out of four candidates. it crushed my ego. so, aquafina... you are wrong. how could i have a huge "online political ego," when i was so thoroughly crushed by Matthew Ledbetter and Bill Jenkins and Matt Mariano?
i am still cowering behind an anonymous pen name, my ego was crushed so badly. oops, no... i am using my real name. i guess "aqufina" was just in line behind "moore" and "DeerLake" when God was handing out Courage...
Terry B --> with any luck at all,
www.forsyth-independent.com will be up at least seven days before the Run-Off, with a tremendous amount of Luck, it will be Live and On-Line before the early voting starts for the Run-Off.

To answer someone's question here, Wayne Plummer is a failed tax commissioner candidate that came in fourth place in a four-man race. After years of privately complaining about Jack Conway, Wayne Plummer decided to endorse Jack Conway for re-election. Why? Because (as he told me) he felt threatened in his new business venture as a commercial real estate salesman if he didn't go along with the request from another Jack Conway supporter.
Wayne had a chance to stay neutral in that race, and chose to sell-out to the Conway campaign. What Wayne Plummer will never get is that people of principle don't ever sell-out.
Wayne also never realizes is the spelling of my last name.
He was also thrown out of a local GOP meeting for being disorderly and disrespectful and suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time.
Basically, Wayne Plummer is someone who will sell-out to the highest bidder at the time.
Madame "eyes are open,"
alas, i am saddened that we will not be able to meet for Kaffee. it might have been very interesting, certainly for me - if not interesting at all for you.
oh well, at least i asked, at least i offered.. Just trying to elevate the tone of the discussion here. perhaps introduce a more cordial relationship between rational folks in Forsyth County - reasonable folks who might possibly be willing to step out of their "Group Think" mode, and actually have a civil conversation with someone who may not agree with another person's opinion 100% of the time
Have a Coke and a Smile
y'all be sweet to one 'nother now, and have a Blessed Day
http://www.forsythtoday.com/happyday/7.htm
ah, Mr. Richards returns for an encore performance.
as is often the case however, he is either misinformed or just inclined toward libel/slander
i have never been thrown out of a Forsyth GOP meeting. Ted Paxton was there the night that Gray Smith blew a gasket because (as he said, i refused to shake his hand, or some other reason, it was a long time ago).
Sheriff Paxton was there. I told Gray to call 911, if he thought I should be removed from the Kiwanis Club. amazingly, even though Gray must have been fearful that i might "verbally accost him," he never called 911. Sheriff Paxton might have sent a patrol deputy to the Kiwanis Club, had he thought there was anything amiss, other than Gray blowing a gasket, because i told Gray excatly why i supported Casey Cagle, rather than Gray's preferred candidate Ralph Reed.
Mr. Richards was nowhere in the vicinity of the conversation i had with Gray. as a matter of fact, the language i used to explain my thoughts about his preferred candidate was, shall we say, "colorful." Gray must not typically hear such language. i think that is why Gray subsequently pushed me and told me to "get out of his face."
Mr. Richards, why don't you tell folks what kind of "loyal," respectful," "orderly" person you are. Did i do such a bad job at your home, when i offered to volunteer and help you rip up the old hard-wood floor in your foyer? i think i told you then that i was not a professional floor-surfacing guy. i was just there, trying to (as have so many other folks) be helpful and cordial and respectful toward you.
You may think that I am a sell-out. i think you are a prick. (am i allowed in the D. Richards world to have an opinion that differs perhaps just slightly from your own?)
Lynn: who in the world do you think "hand picked" David Richard? Tam had about $78.000 contributed by developers to his campaign. Dave Richard and Mike Busse had about $7.000 each,; mostly from concerned homeowners. The "hand pickers" are the city officials and the commercial developers. Not the homeowners like you and me. They have hand picked Bell, Tam and Tressler. Go ahead, join the pickers. As far as majority is concerned; take a look at the pics at Forsythnews.com. You will see Tressler, Bell, Ledbetter and Jack Murphy all at the same place, applauding one another. There is a majority.
Wayne invited me to coffee. But I say to my female friends out there: "Wake up and smell the coffee!" Just because we are women does not mean we have to be poorly educated and uninformed. What date was the last town meeting you atttended? Just start observing the meetings and studying the issues and you will really know who is on the take. Let's see; could they be Tam, Tressler and Bell? Forget gender when it come to politics and race for that matter. Just start studying the facts!
Wayne: I don' t think you and I drink the same coke. But I am smiling and having a blessed day!
Dear neighbors,
Some interesting stats, Ms Tressler's home precinct gave her 40% of their votes. Mr Boff's home precinct gave him 77% of their vote. The voters in district 5 were almost 2 to 1 in favor of Boff.
deerlake, I have to disagree with you. Jim did say that and it's on tape. It was at the last Smart Growth debate. Take a peek. He said something like she was a mother and should not be considered a good candidate. That is not exact but it is very, very close.
Thank you for those stats. That's something we can work with!
oops, Dave, almost forgot...
why don't you tell all the Sports Fans here exactly why you told me that you were such an early Supporter of Ralph Reed? ...when - as the former Chairman of the local Libertarian Party of Forsyth County - you know that i (and anyone else who knew the old Dave Richards - the one before the self-serving Flip-Flop to run as a Republican) that most of R. Reeds positions on issues are diametrically opposed to your own.
now, please explain how ANYONE could be a bigger SELL-OUT than D. Richards? wow, and to think, when you used to be the Chairman of the local Libertarian Party of Forsyth County... you seemed to have at least a few Principles upon which you stood. i guess political expediency, and the advice of Gray Smith to flip to the Forsyth GOP (despite Gray's alleged opposition to the RINO - Republican in Name Only crowd)...
political expediency is obviously more important to you than anything else.
oh, and i know exactly how to correctly spell your name. i thought you might get annoyed enough to come back on this site (this time maybe, using your own name) and launch another - as it turns out, completely false - allegation against a citizen whom you are supposed to serve as an elected official. Hmmm
You should fact-check things, before you accept ANYTHING that Gray Smith says as having even a close approximation to the Truth.
please forgive Lord, for i am just trying to have a tiny bit of fun with Commissioner Richard. just cannot stop celebrating the results of the Election Tuesday
please go out and have a Coke and a Smile - i am such a forgiving guy to back-stabbers like David Richard, heck i will even pay for the "pop" - that is what y'all call a Coca Cola in Massachusetts, isn't it? or maybe a "soda" or maybe y'all drink Pepsi?
whatever - i still think that you are as great Dave as i always have, so i will buy whatever it is that you may be thirsty for (although i cannot afford the MAGIC that would be required for you to win an election when/if you face actual opposition
now Dave, y'all be SWEET, ya hear?
oh, and i meant to ask... who are you supporting in the Run-Off for District 5? now that you are a lame-duck Commissioner, no one should worry too much about the conflict of interest that some might assume, if a lame-duck commissioner were to publicly support a candidate in a different race for a different District seat? was just curious...

i am not a native Atlantan, as is Gray Smith. He may, because of his extensive knowledge of Georgia and Atlanta history, be able to tell you just about everything there is to know about Coke.
Gray is generally a smarter guy than me, in most every subject. For that - for his intelligence, if not his behavior and demeanor - I respect the guy.
i am pleased that you are smiling (as am i) and having a Blessed Day (as i have had a blessed Tuesday night, all day Wednesday, and - up to now - a very, very happy and Blessed Thursday.

Here we go again....to my eyes are opened, Can't you at least give a first name? More smear on viable candidates. I hope people are smarter than that. I am waiting for proof that these good candidates are hand-picked or city folks, otherwise I think your posts are full of BS.
Wayne Plummer-- what a novel idea, having a website with NO anonymous posters, now you'll get like 2 people to post, so good luck with that.
On both sides you have had mud, mud, smear, and more mud...mostly by those hiding behind their anonymity. Funny.
Mr. Richard, for you... I do want to say thank you for your 4 years of service. By and all I think you did good for those 4 years and I credit you for getting me highly interested in local politics!
I'll support anyone that will keep the Cumming city council from being increased in size from 5 people to 8 people. Since the voters just added two more (Tam and Bell) and seem to be behind Tressler, I am squarely in the Boff camp.
Just as I was before the primary.
Unlike you, Wayne, I don't sell-out to the highest bidder.
And there is no conflict of interest in supporting ANY candidate in any race (lame duck or not), nor is it unethical to do so. It is called free speech and is protected by the 1st Amendment to the United States Constitution. You should read it sometime.
To Mr Quinn,
Did you at anytime during the Golf Course rezoning send David Richard an email on his county computer asking him to change the land use map for the golf course? Did he refuse your request?
Emails to county comptuers are open records and can be obtained by anyone.
Lynn,
Can't you EVER stay on topic?
For the record, I don't know if I ever received an e-mail from Mr. Quinn regarding changing the designation of the golf course, but I have had numerous face-to-face discussions with him and I support changing the designation from Activity Center to low-density housing, as is befitting for the area now developed around the golf course.
Activity Center was never an appropriate designation for that area. Our Comprehensive Plan proved that, and the citizens who worked on the subarea planning agreed.
Now, would you please stay on topic?
Was I talking to you Dave? This IS on topic. It is concerning voting for Julie Tressler as opposed to someone who is bought and paid for by special interest groups IMO. Now stay on topic Dave!!! Who cares about Wayne Plummers' lost bid for Tax commissioner or whatever.
This is also concerning a possible highly unethical request by a citizen to a sitting commissioner.
"Wayne Plummer"
I'll be encouraging current District 4 Forsyth County Board of Commissioner David Richard to campaign as an "Independant" write-in for November in an effort to see him retain that seat...So I'll look forward to participating upon your forums as the Free-Thinking Independant I purport myself to be--dispite my "RINO" status otherwise--as I do like to excercise My otherwise limited choices of effecting what changes I desire of My Government.
What then will be your sites policy on censureship? Don't bother posting it here...Post it there so We'll have to go to the site to see it!
I'll be looking forward to prosecuting the issues there too then!
Ciao
Jack Gleason
(aka Christopher Robin Road Warrior "MAD JAX")
Wayne, Why do you keep raising the name Gray Smyth? Why do you need to know my name? Can you just take the point rather than search and post the phonebook search results?
TerryB, I agree that his Wayne's World website will have two posters on it since there will be NO anonymous posters. With everything with Wayne I hear, he will cave in and change!
I forgot to ask, why is Wayne trying to invite every blogger to coffee, or is it just women? Someone needs a friend.
Lynn,
Please try to make the case that requesting a change of designation is unethical. This I'd like to hear.
On second thought, don't bother. The answer wouldn't be worth the time to read.
Mr. Richard Are you thinking about running as an Independent? Wouldn't you have already had to put in your petition? I think it would be a tough fight, but sure would be interesting to say the least.
Terry: I gave my first name: Suzy, and as to viable candidates: that is your opinion. My reference to hand picked was a response to Lynn, not you. Also, I doubt you only look for proof as far as these blogs. Leave your computer and do the research. Also, the dollar amounts I gave are on the record and so are the donors. There's your proof! Again, I challenge you to show up at the next town meeting, July 24th. Does anyone care about Green Space? I do! Will I see you there?
Asking you to secretly change the land use map would be unethical. Was Your reply to him "The land use map cannot be changed without a public hearing,?" in an email which was an still can be otained by an ORR.
Bob Moore -->
within this thread, is there anything that I have contributed that would lead a rational/sane person to think that i have invited "every blogger to coffee?" i did not think so.
i think i may have invited one contributor to this thread, maybe two out for a cup of coffee. since the number of contributors to this thread is greater than two, greater even than three...
Hmm... perhaps you may have exaggerated?
perhaps? just as david richard and gray smith are prone to exaggeration to the point of lying?
if you are not a woman, i would like to invite you to coffee. i would be happy to invite any open-minded individual for a cup of coffee. might you qualify?
you are correct, when you say that I need a friend.
when i helped Dave Richard rip up the old hardwood floor from his home up on the north end, he treated me as though i were a friend.
Maybe he was a two-faced, lying back-stabber even back in those days (although one would like to think that he was okay, back when he was Chairman of the local Libertarian Party of Forsyth County, back when he had Principles, and did not flip-flop and change parties and go against his own long-held beliefs to support anti-Libertarian Ralph Reed in 2006).
whatever is politically expedient for dave, switching parties at the urging of Gray Smith, or supporting Ralph Reed because "Ralph will win, and I need to be in his good favor/good graces." i cannot remember the exact quote. ?what was it Dave? __
one can rarely have too many friends, Mr. Moore. as long as they are not fair-weather, two-faced, lying, back-stabbing "friends" like David Richard.
now, if you are interested in a free cup of coffee... please send an Email to:
sales-team@forsyth-today.com
i assure you that you will receive a timely response
Thank You, Mr. Moore !!
you have a Blessed day, ya hear?
be sweet, and try to go out and
Have a Coke and a Smile
**you know what? it is high time that i stopped holding this grudge against dave richard.
dave, even though i think that you are a prick, you are still welcome in my home, welcome to come over for a cup of coffee. or i will even drive across the county, and meet you at a coffee shop or restaurant of your choosing. Let's bury the hatchet. i am obviously willing to be the bigger person, to offer up an olive branch...
there, i feel better already. Mr. Moore, i was inspired to find a forgiving heart by your kind words above. Again, i thank you!
http://www.forsythtoday.com/happyday/7.htm
TerryB,
As much as I'd like nothing better than to keep the serial liar Patrick Bell out of office, there will be no independent run for me. God has decided that I do something else, and I just hope He gives me some clue as to what that is before January 1st.
Lynn,
That was no secret request by Mr. Quinn. It was asking for information, which I gave to him. Changing the map by a single commissioner is what got us into that mess in the first place.
You know what gets me Suzy is, if you say anything around this town, whether you give money to campaign or not, it seems people get slammed. I could not care how much money you have, how much money you have given to campaigns. Giving money to a campaign is irrelevant and your perogative. I don't care, and those of us voters who don't have money to give out to campaigns should have a voice, becaue I pay taxes too on the properties I own. And as a fiscal conservative myself, I would like my government officials to be fiscally responsible too (for everyone) This has been my gripe right along.
Mr. Richard Thank you so much for your gracious response. I do appreciate it...I know we have had our disagreements in the past, but what about a state spot or something? I am dead serious, you know we need someone like you to keep governmetn really out of schools and give us a choice. Oh Gosh, don't get me started.
Terry:
when David W. Richard was the Chairman of the local Libertarian Party of Forsyth County (back when he desrved a respectful opinion of his Libertarian ideas), he would have agreed with you that Government should be kept out of schools.
after his "conversion" (not sure Sawnee Mountain has had any burning bushes lately, nor whether Mr. Richard might have been present)
afterwards, when he became a disciple of Ralph Reed... well, as you say... don't get me started
TerryB,
Sorry, but the state pays worse than the county does.
And Wayne, just because you have a problem with born-again Christians (and we all know you do), doesn't mean that I agreed with everything Ralph Reed stood for. Nor do I agree with everything ANYBODY stands for (except me). My stance on schools, like all of my STANCES, remains consistent. Government funded education is a failure.
Mr. Gleason,
i do sincerely and humbly apologize for the delay in responding to your query (ies)

ah, Dave Richard... another lie.
? i have a PROBLEM with Born-Again Christians ?
okay, and where does this lie originate? some of my best friends are Born-Again Christians. they do, however, try their hardest to be sincer. they do not typically kneel down at an altar, just so people might think they believe something, rather than because they have been advised that such a
"conversion" might help them get votes from genuine Christians and those of other faiths

Mr. Richard, You need to seriously consider running for a state spot and Government Schools are an abysmmal failure. Every last one of them claim they are 'world class' when it simply isn't true. When the free market takes over public education we will then be globally competitive. No doubt about it.
Dave Richard you are going to be missed!! Thank you for always stating the facts, as you see them, and keeping the public informed.
In almost 4 years I have only disagreed with ONE vote you made. You have truly been 100% for the citizens of Forsyth. As I have stated before ,you can be a little too colorful, argumentitive, rude, blunt, and "cold" but hey you kept it interesting. You kept it REAL and opened the doors and windows to all those closed "political" smoky rooms.
Please reconsider the Indpendent option .... if you don't I and many many others will be voting Democratic and supporting Jon Flack. Under NO circumstances do we need someone looking after our money and business who cannot even look after his own. No way will I vote for Patrick Bell.
God Bless you Dave and THANK YOU for 4 years of looking after our business.
Wayne, I will ask again since I never got an answer. Why do you keep raising the name Gray Smyth? What has Dave Richard got to do with what I asked you? Or the Cagle/Reed race? And how many times have you mentioned that you helped DR with his flooring? And that you have a commissioners cell phone number? Focus boy focus!
You have some serious grudge issues over that even though you say you will bury the hatchet with DR (you did not say where you would bury it!). It is like you were picked on at school and now you are all grown up and are brave enough to talk back.
Terry B: Where did you get the idea that I said only those with money should have a voice? i really don't know what lines you are reading between. I have been a voter for many years, since I was 18, and I have been in all levels of financial status excluding extremely wealthy. You keep ranting and raving about tax payer money being spent in places you don't think it should. Well, that is always going to be the case. I pay 2/3 of my property taxes for public schools for which my family has never made use of. I am with you on the poor status of our educational system. You have a right to vote, and that has not been contested by me, nor your right to voice an opinion. I'm glad you have one! And I agree to disagree on a few of your issues, that's all. That's why we vote, and sometimes we lose. The worst evil in society is complacency and South Forsyth has displayed it! I am a South Forsythian and I am ashamed that more of us did not make it to the polls.
"Ditto" and "Amen" and 'pass the biscuits" Srpirkle!
David, you are a sore a$$ loser. You and that looney Jack Gleason, and the hypocrite srpirkle.
srpirkle, how dare you send off a God Bless when you have just written a judgemental post like that. You are a hypocrite from the "git go". You need to go talk to your Pastor!
David, at some point you need to realize that maybe you were sent a mesage to quit being so nasty. Maybe that's what God is trying to tell you. I am not a prophet so I have no idea really, but it's a thought. I do know it was you that lost your race with your sorry attitude, ego and mouth.
And Jackie, dear Jackie...was it you that has been writing lunacy over at aboutforsyth for the past few weeks. I hope you are enjoying every bit of that crow you are eating.
Save some for Nasty Dave and the hypocrite srpirkle.
