Erickson Retirement Communities, a national leader in the development and management of continuing care retirement communities, has announced plans to build a retirement community at the intersection of McGinnis Ferry and Bethany Bend roads in Forsyth County.

Erickson Regional Vice President Steven Montgomery said the development would serve a need in the community. There are currently 11,000 Forsyth residents aged 62 and older, Montgomery said. “The number of retirees in Forsyth County and environs is expected to double by 2030 and this type of senior housing will be critical for this growing population,” he said.

Erickson Retirement Communities provides a brand of full-service retirement living that is different from other retirement and assisted living facilities found in metro Atlanta.  The Erickson concept focuses on providing middle-income retirees with a maintenance-free lifestyle that includes on-site amenities and stimulating social opportunities that improve both physical and mental health.

The proposed campus will consist of approximately 1,500 independent living units, two clubhouses, 150 assisted living units and 100 skilled care units. The campus buildings will be arranged in what is currently anticipated to be two neighborhoods each containing six or seven residential buildings, with approximately 100 to 125 independent living units in each.

Amenity features include a fitness center with full-time trainers, all-weather indoor pool, medical center with full-time physicians, a full-time pastoral staff, a chapel, hair salons, transportation to nearby shopping, full-service restaurants, a pharmacy, on-site convenience stores, banks, meeting rooms and wood shop – all accessible by climate-controlled walkways.

Upon competition, the Erickson Retirement Community in Forsyth County will cover a 88-acre tract.
