County Manager Terminated

County Manager Rhonda Poston O'Connor was terminated last night by a 3-2 majority of the board of commissioners, in their regular meeting.  Cause for termination was failure to properly notify the board of commissioners of a $5M shortfall in the county budget.  "She submitted an unbalanced budget, and did not bother to tell us"  commissioner Dave Richard said.

The issue is further exacerbated by the fact that the overall county revenues are currently running at an $8.9M shortfall, making the budget unbalanced by nearly $13.9M. "Thats nearly 15% of the total budget"  Richard said.

Commissioners Harrell and Laughinghouse both defended O'Connor, noting that she was not the author of the budget, and was acting without the benefit of a deputy county manager or a CFO at the time. "It was a single line item on a 140+ page document" Commissioner Harrell said.

No official cause was stated in the meeting.  Sources tell cumminghome.com that the root issue was personality conflicts - not the budget issue.

O"Connor received an ovation from the audience as she left the meeting immediately after the decision.

According to the terms of her employment contract, O'Connor will receive a full year's salary and other benefits, the balance of which will need to paid back to the county if she is re-hired.  Commissioners Laughinghouse and Harrell have hinted that they might attempt to hire her back in January if a majority of the new board of commissioners supports the idea.   When asked if she would consider re-employment in January, O'Connor responded "Absolutely".

If any move to re-hire Ms. O'Connor is attempted in January following all the facts about the real reasons for her termination, a recall petition against those commissioners supporting such action should be the first order of business for Forsyth County voters.

It seems strange that 2 out of 3 commissioners voting O'Connor out will not be in for another term. This seems more like disgruntled commissioners with obvious personality conflicts. You would think in 2008 a towns elected officials would act more like adults than a bunch of High Schoolers.

Of course it would seem strange to you two, especially if you weren't paying attention to what is really going on. You're probably Bell supporters.

David, A recall would not work. Never. No one paid attention to the facts/issues in your effort to get re-elected, why would they pay attention now?

Received an ovation from the audience??? and that audience consisted of perhaps 10 people, many of whom were members of the Laughinghouse family. No wonder we don't trust the media when misleading statements like this are printed. And for the Chairman to have invoked the prayer of Jesus on the Cross was one of the most offensive things I have ever heard. He should be ashamed. And if we use the reasoning that those leaving office should not make decisions, then we should immediately stop all UDC changes, budget approvals and zonings. Commissioners are elected for a 4 year term, not 3 years and 8 months.

Good grief, what has this county become when I almost agree with this statement? Note: I said "almost".

Forsyth county government is becoming a joke.

The fire department lost 3 more guys thursday due to dismissal, illness and career change. The department is in dire need of firemen, we have almost 10 vacancies. This puts only two guys on some fire trucks. Please let us hire, for our safety and yours.

David Richard

We're working on that right now, fireman. One of the reasons she was fired was her lack of attention to our nearly $14 million revenue shortfall. I hope we'll have an answer for everyone in about a week or so.

DM: I suppose your suggestion of a re-call will be about as successful as your re-election bid was "Burnout" Dave. Perhaps you can depend on all those supporters of yours to sign that re-call. This has me wondering if you can count inventoried socks as well as you did budget numbers for the last four years. This shortfall did not happen overnight pal. Where were you????

A worm that makes threats; hummm....sounds like a new cartoon show to me "Burnout" Dave! Maybe a challenge more attuned to your actual ability.

The last place we should be cutting back is with the firemen and/or police. Please NO MORE EXCUSES. We need our police and we need our firemen. This place is going to hell in a handbasket fast. What's next? Overburdened taxpayers cannot keep shelling out the dough for the polticians and elected ones, I hope people are taking note and vote accordingly!

Who is running this county?? Anyone?

TerryB

And DAve...please leave us bell supporters alone, we have been paying attention and spoke July 15. You lost, with all due respect of course.

I will continue to disagree with your decision on the bethel park issue. No way, no how when you know crap like this was going on. But I am opposed to that expensive overpriced taj mahal jail. Would someone in this town hold the line on unnecessary expenditures for one cotton pickin' minute? Fire and police should not be cut, that's a necessity. Good grief, the good citizens of forsyth are getting raked over the coals. Ya know the school system has done a better job on holding down expenses lately than you all even. I hope I don't eat my words, but I will have to give kudos to them. And as far as I know they have not cut back on teachers..

So ... I can only believe that the person that was fired will NOT have a replacement because of the county's hiring freeze?

p.s. Re firefighters -- the Metro area have several looking for work --we need firefighters not commissioners like we have.

p.s. the commissioners should be charged back that nearly $500,000 the county has paid out!

Sorry, TerryB. If Bell supporters were really paying attention, they'd see that they elected a known, proven serial liar. They aren't very bright if they buy his lies.

Peter, you're such a whiner. Of course there will be new hires, as soon as we get the spending sorted out. The feeze isn't permanent. If you had been paying attention instead of griping about things you don't understand, you'd know that.

DM: “Burnout” Dave quotes; “as soon as we get the spending sorted out”. Are you folks believing this crap? “Burnout” Dave has had well over four and one half years to get the spending under control and “NOW” he claimed he’s gonna get it sorted out? Have you folks ever heard such crap in your lives? He blames a county employee who has only been at the helm of county administration less that a year while he’s been running his fat mouth for almost four years now he’s gonna get a handle on the spending? Now you see why he earned the name “Burnout” Dave?

"Darwin" and "LivingtheNightMare" is calling other folks liars? By January "Burnout" Dave will be testifying how he can walk on water!

Burnout Dave, you are such a poor excuse for a public servant. Why do you find it important to continue to talk bad about the guy that beat you. You can call him a liar all you want but what you are really saying is that the majority bought his lies. I think not. I personally checked your record and he did not lie about you. Everything he said was accurate. You are a master spinner and don't know the first thing about be honest or straightforward. And your testicular fortitude is nothing short of inverted.

As usual you are trying to blame everyone but yourself. The poor management is because of Charlie and Jim but not you? Sorry but you are part of the board and all 5 must take credit for this fiasco as well as the poor condition the county is in.

When you are crowing you always say you were part of the board that blah, blah, blah. But let there be a major blunder and you blame everyone else. You are so pathetic and again, a poor excuse for a public servant.

I cannot wait for the day for you to be gone. You're attitude makes me sick.

David Richard
Sep 6, 2008 11:03pm [ 21 ]

Jimmy, you continue to be an idiot.

Milum, the spending WAS under control for the past 2 1/2 years based on the revenue we were receiving and the growth we were experiencing. That changed this past year, and Ms. O'Connor was the main reason for the lack of attention to that issue and for her budget out of balance by $5 million dollars. But I guess when you are a moron, these little details escape you. Maybe you should have talked to her for more than 15 minutes before you changed your mind about her. Or maybe you shouldn't believe everything your BFF Buddy Lang tells you about - well - anything.

Fifteen minutes talking to you about your under the table surplus land deal was all it took to see how big of a lying crooked coward you are "Burnout" David W. Richard.

Fifteen minutes discussing how you attacked the innocent Hansard family was plenty enough time for me to see that you Sir are not what you claim to be. You are a foreign invader whose goals are to destroy my community.

If we are to successfully fight evil we have to clearly recognize what it looks like and Mr. Richard we have named you as this threat. Throwing your sorry hide out of office is the first step to set things right.

If Burn Out Dave would have spent as much time doing his job as he did bashing people and calling names and showing his immaturity in forums like these;he might still be a commissioner for next term. A person once told me people don't change- they just get older. I think this is especially true with Capt. Dave.He is still acting like a kid.

David Richard
Sep 8, 2008 12:30pm [ 25 ]

Keep living in your fantasy world, alan.

I'm rather glad I'm not serving again. Having to deal with people who call themselves Republicans that don't even remotely act like one is getting a bit tiring. I can do much more on the outside than I can on the inside. I spent plenty of time doing my job, the rest of your so-called Republicans failed in theirs.

David Milum

So "Burnout" Dave, lying about posting under alias names in your Yankee brain does not constitute living in a fantasy world?

Oh I forgot to ask earlier; how did it feel for you to get to fire someone for the first time in your weaselly little life? Did you feel big there Yankee boy?

I can see it now ...you framing the headline..."Burnout" David W. Richard gets to fire someone". I am so impressed "Burnout"!

Whoops!, is it true "Burnout" Dave that you have and are libeling Ronda O'Conner and another Citizen around town? That is what I am hearing. You are playing with fire little fellow and you should know that. Just a friendly warning that this will cost you a lot more than you'll ever take home from the outlet mall. That big mouth of yours is writting a check that you'll never be able to cash. Folks around this neck of the woods have long, long, long memories Yankee boy.

Jan

It seems that some folks posting here keep talking about 'libeling' everyone under the sun. What's up with that? All I keep reading is "it's going to cost you" and "you libeled me". I guess our court system my be filled up with libel cases, huh?

David Richard

No Mr. Milum - it's just your hearing that needs checking. And your sanity.

David Richard
Sep 10, 2008 12:29pm [ 31 ]

Hey Milum! Maybe you could represent yourself in any libel case you bring forth. It worked out so well for you in all your past cases, didn't it? It's why you're known around the county and state as an 0-fer.

As in 0-fer everything you've ever accused someone else of doing. You're a joke that isn't funny anymore.

David Milum
Sep 10, 2008 5:53pm [ 32 ]

But "Burnout" Dave you seem to have missed my question above; "did you go around town and to a particular community meeting telling witnesses that Ronda O'Conner and a private Citizen hatched an under the table deal for the county to buy the jail property? Did you also talk about phone conversation from a billing invoice too? Yes or no? I already know the answer but let's see if you will give us an honest answer....nope, not holding my breath "Burnout" Dave.

David Richard
Sep 10, 2008 10:24pm [ 33 ]

Since you already claim to know the answer, then nothing I say differently will satisfy you. Of course, nothing ever satisfies you since you are always wrong.

However, you are wrong again.

David Milum
Sep 11, 2008 12:03am [ 34 ]

So then you are also denying having spirited phone records to do with this issue in your hands that you intended to use as blackmail against Ms. O'Conner? Is that right or wrong Dave?

David Richard
Sep 11, 2008 10:22am [ 35 ]

I have no phone records. I have never had any phone records. Of course, some of us don't traffic in rumors or innuendo, and just simply act on the FACTS of the situation, which is why you never heard or read about any phone records that you mentioned above. Unfortunately, when you are a moron like yourself, you just can't seem to face reality. It is just another step towards insanity, which is why I'd never hire a lunatic like you to do any work for me.

And can't you even get her name spelled right? It's O'ConnOr, not O'ConnEr.

You are dumber than a sack of hammers, Milum.

And you're still an 0-fer. And will always be an 0-fer.

David Milum
Sep 12, 2008 1:10am [ 36 ]

Ughhummmm.....I didn't lose any elections lately that I am aware of "Burnout" Dave. To me a man as smart as you think you are might be considered as dumb as a sack of hammers to not be able to win a pitiful backwoods election like you lost the other day. But of course I am laughing ”Burnout” Dave.

What will those old friends of yours back in Massachusetts think about you getting kicked out of office way down here in Redneckville? I’ll bet that will get you laughed out of your next “completed in the required number of years” high school reunion. lol

Isn’t it a terrible disgrace that these Yahoos, as you call them, just can’t seen to appreciate a carpet bagging Yankee skunk like you? Gosh, I can’t understand it. Shameful, just plain ole shameful!

And yes, you are correct in that I have been misspelling Ms. O’Connor’s name. Pshaw, first thing in the morning I fully intend to jab a rusty ice pick in my one of my two typing fingers for penitence….but wait you don’t believe in penitence do you “Burnout” Dave and no compassion in government either….how forgetful of me. There I go again forgetting that you are really a nasally God that sacrificed so much to come down here to save us all.

David Richard

Don't limit yourself to just your fingers on my account, Milum. Think outside the box.

David Milum
Sep 13, 2008 11:54am [ 38 ]

"Burnout" Dave, did you pad your meetings records so you could collect the total $2,000.00 per month allowance? Yes or no? Remember, we’ll be looking very very closely at that next week. What is your answer?

David Richard
Sep 13, 2008 6:44pm [ 39 ]

That would be no, you waste of oxygen.

Clear enough for ya?

Keep wasting more taxpayer dollars, 0-fer. We'll just add it to the bill we'll be sending you.

David Milum
Sep 13, 2008 10:00pm [ 40 ]

What's the matter "Burnout" Dave don’t want these fine upstanding Citizens finding out how you possibly ripped off the Taxpayers by claiming that you attended twenty meetings a month at $125.00 a pop but lied about it to only collect the money? Why not work with me so together we can prove to these folks that you didn’t steal anything “Burnout” Dave? We already know that you are a lying Yankee coward so surely you don’t want thief added to that list…I know I wouldn’t want to be the one to prove you are a thief too so let’s work to insure that doesn’t happen “Burnout” Dave.

Let me see….twenty meetings a month for twelve months …hummm….that seems to be around…my goodness that a whopping $30,000.00 a year. A lot of bank robbers don’t make that kind of a haul! All you need to do now “Burnout” Dave is to put up the proof that you didn’t pad your monthly meetings by making up a pack of lies. But for you that will be easy to do right “Burnout” Dave? You do have all the documentation to fully support every single meeting you have attended to be able to collect this $30,000.00 per year…right “Burnout” Dave?

This should be a breeze to run through all your documentation with the name and zoning numbers and so forth. I look forward to it “Burnout” Dave how about you?

David Milum
Sep 13, 2008 10:13pm [ 41 ]

Gosh, I missed something lying Dave. Here is your statement; "Keep wasting more taxpayer dollars, 0-fer. We'll just add it to the bill we'll be sending you."

Least you forget I wrote to Ken Jarrard about this "we" crap about some bill. There is no bill and there is not going to be a bill you Yankee liar. I don't owe Forsyth County one red cent. I asked Ken who "we" is and Ken denies that there is a "we". His letters to me leaves you totally out in the cold lying coward Dave.

Look around yourself duffus, you Sir are all alone so the “we” is no more than wishful thinking on your part. Do you have a mouse in your pocket “Burnout” Dave?

You just wait Alan until you or a family member gets set up here and then you give me a call. David Milum
Sep 19, 2008 11:20am [ 49 ]

David Richard loves to talk his ratchet-jawed game that includes his self-induced-illusion that he somehow has all the answers. We need not forget his $239,000.00 losing attack on the innocent Hansard family that has now lead to his prolonged idiocy in yet another royal screw-up that is costing us $150,000.00 in severance pay for Ronda O’Connor. This not mentioning his firing of innocent past County Manager David Armstrong.

David Richard’s foolishness in these two screw-ups alone cost the Forsyth County Taxpayers $389,000.00 that was totally unnecessary. This cash expenditure doesn’t touch the irreparable harm done to our community by way of mistrust in Forsyth County Government. The word across this Nation is that if you decide to work for Forsyth County you will be lied about and fired for no good reason if you do not kiss someone’s corrupt a$$.
