Man Drowns in Lake Lanier

A 23 year-old man drowned Sunday afternoon in Lake Lanier, Forsyth County Sheriff Ted Paxton said today. 

According to Sheriff Paxton, the victim, Marlon Manuel Medina Rodriquez, and two friends were floating on a large piece of styrofoam about 20 yards offshore at Little Ridge Park in Cumming when the styrofoam turned over and the three lost their grip.  Rodriguez’ two friends made it safely to shore but Rodriguez disappeared into approximately 8’ of water.  His friends immediately called 911. 

Authorities received the 911 call at 4:32 p.m. and were on the scene within minutes.   Rodriguez’ body was recovered about 1 ½ hours later.

Rodriguez was residing  in Tucker.
