About 945 am on Friday, September 26th,  a house fire call came in that put the Forsyth County Fire Department's tankers to the test.

Approximately 97% of homes in Forsyth County are in an area that has fire hydrants nearby.  For the remaining 3%, Forsyth County firefighters rely on the use of tanker trucks.

Fire engines carry anywhere from 500 to 750 gallons of water with them on the truck, but as an engine runs out, a tanker is  connected to the engine to refill it, creating a seamless operation known as "nursing".  In this case, the tanker becomes a mobile fire hydrant, with a capacity of 3000 gallons of water.

Friday's fire at Lakeside drive used this procedure, and it worked very well according Public Information Officer Captain Jason Shivers.  3 engines, 1 ladder company, and 2 tankers were deployed to the residence at 3010 Lakeside Drive.

Noone was home at the time of the fire, which was brought under control within minutes of arrival.

"We are proud of our personell"  Captain Shivers said.
