The Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy is a free 10 week course that meets from 7 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on consecutive Mondays. The Academy is open to all Forsyth County residents, employees, and business owners.
The Academy provides students with hands-on training and law enforcement knowledge in a friendly environment.
The course is run by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and closely follows the actual hands-on training deputies undergo. All instructors in this program are Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office employees. Topics include Constitutional law, conducting traffic stops, judgmental use of force, K9 and S.W.A.T. demonstrations, ride-alongs with deputies and much more.
Our goal is to build a closer bond with the citizens and business owners of Forsyth County through communication and education. Take it from former students of the Citizens’ Law Enforcement Academy:
“Awesome—was very interesting and exciting being able to participate in such an event.” Session 07-05
“What a fantastic class! I really have gained a great deal from all classes and ride-alongs—increased respect for law enforcement.” Session 07-05
“I enjoyed all of the classes. This experience has provided me with a much greater appreciation of the Sheriff’s Office’s important role in Forsyth County.” Session 07-06
Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applications for 2008 classes—the application can be downloaded at www.forsythsheriff.org and emailed to Deputy Courtney Spriggs at cbspriggs@forsythco.com or faxed to (770) 781-2203. For questions call (770) 205-4547.
