A new Environmental Horticulture program is now being offered at the Forsyth Campus of Lanier Technical College.
The development of the Environmental Horticulture Department at Lanier Tech is in response to the high demand locally for landscape managers and technicians, garden designers, greenhouse growers, nursery managers, pesticide applicators, and floral designers. Environmental horticulture is an $8.12 billion industry in Georgia with approximately 7,000 firms employing over 80,000 people. Lanier Tech’s Environmental Horticulture programs will specialize in meeting the training needs of landscapers, lawn care companies, garden centers, nurseries and florists.
The College offers six-quarter Associate Degrees with specializations in Horticulture, Landscape Management, Floral Design, and Plant Production. Shorter one- to two-quarter certificate programs are also offered in Floral Design, Landscape Design, Lawn Maintenance, Landscape Specialist, Turf Grass Maintenance, Commercial Pesticide Applicator, and Garden Center Technician.
Lanier Tech’s Environmental Horticulture courses offer the hands-on training with industry standard equipment to provide students with the skills that employers desire.
Heading up the Horticulture program is Gary Love from Cumming. Gary has 25 years of experience in the local greenhouse and landscaping industry. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia’s Agricultural Economics Program and owned and operated a local specialty nursery, Love’s Greenhouse, for 15 years.
