Forsyth Christian School recently hosted the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) regional science fair and the local Christian school had several upper elementary and middle school students recognized for their outstanding projects.

"This was our first year hosting the ACSI Science Fair and we hope to do it again next year,” said FCS Headmaster Marty Cochran, pleased with the overall results. “It was good to see the excitement and interest by all of the students.”

During the science fair, attendees were treated to a closer look at the Forsyth County Sheriff's Department's Crime Scene Investigation unit, as Officer Mike Garrison gave an active presentation, including fingerprinting and DNA analysis in relation to the scientific aspects of the unit's procedures.

Students also toured the department's crime scene van and were included in a demonstration of fingerprinting a crime scene.

Caitlin Walls, an FCS sixth grade participant, was excited about the presentation. “It was really cool to see how the sheriff's officers use the powders and scientific things to solve crimes. I never knew science was such a help to them.”

She said it was her “Excellent” rating she received, however, for her non-experimental project on gem stone collections that was the most gratifying.

Overall, twelve FCS students were awarded ribbons for their submissions.

Superior ribbon winners included fourth grader Marty Wehner's project on Battery Life; MacKenzie Caudill's, fourth grader, submission on the e ffects of chlorine in water; and seventh grade student Emaly Teal's expose and demonstration of a hot water refrigerator.

Amber Waddell (5th), Madison Hoover (5th), Caitlin Walls (6th), and Jill Danner (7th) were all awarded Excellent ratings.

Good awards included Natalie Pracht (5th), Austin Williams (6th), Savannah Syverson (7th), Annie Syfert (7th), and Mason Hoover (8th).

Ratings distributed were based on Superior (highest award), Excellent (second highest award), and Good (third highest award).
