Southside Dance Company a student-run dance company made up of students from South Forsyth High School, produces two very entertaining shows yearly. If you haven’t seen them yet, don’t miss their upcoming production!

One of the most impressive things about Southside Dance Company is that the students choose the music, choreograph the dances, and design the costuming and lighting for all of the musical numbers. Once they have an idea for a dance, the students audition their idea in front of their peers and the Company votes on which dances will be performed in the production. During the year, the Company practices 3 hours a week as a unit, but at any given time you’ll find the kids in basements and living rooms across South Forsyth, practicing their individual dance routines.

Last spring, Aimee Garcia and Stephen Patton (currently both juniors at South), choreographed a song from Moulan Rouge entitled “Tango Roxanne.” In the spring show entitled FEELING, each dance represented a human emotion. The dance “Tango Roxanne” seen in the attached video, depicted the dark side of jealousy that sometimes leads to physical and mental abuse.

Southside Dance Company’s upcoming show, FAME, is scheduled for three evenings, November 29-December 1, 2007 (7 PM) in the Performing Arts Center at South Forsyth High School (585 Peachtree Parkway). Ticket prices are $5 for Students (5 and up) and $7 for Adults. Children under 5 are free.
