Inactivation Ceremony to be Held for 357th Corps Support Battalion

The 357th Corps Support Battalion will hold an Inactivation Ceremony on Sept. 15, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Athens Reserve Center at 2190 Winterville Rd., Athens, Ga. The battalion is being inactivated as a result of various reorganizations currently underway within the Reserves.

The event will recognize and honor former members of the unit, including men and women from across north Georgia who served during the unit's six decades of service to the U.S. Army Reserves. Major General James Rafferty, commanding general of the 81st Regional Readiness Command, and Britt Collins, U. S. Army Reserves Georgia Ambassador, will attend.

About the 357th Corps Support Battalion

The 357th Corps Support Battalion, based in Athens, Ga., was established on Dec. 26, 1944, and was comprised of a Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment as a Quartermaster Battalion. The mission of the 357th CSB is to provide direct logistical support to non-divisional units located or moving thru an area of responsibility. In December 2003, the 357th Corps Support Battalion was mobilized for active duty service for support in Operation Iraqi Freedom. During its one-year deployment, the unit was responsible for logistical support in the southern-half of Iraq for food distribution, water purification, fuel distribution, and ammunition coordination, and maintenance support. The unit was mobilized for a total of 545 days.
