Wine Tasting Notes by Norm

Almost as fragrant as gardenias in the Southern night air, the bouquet of the 2001 Mt. Jagged Semillon literally leaps out of the glass and attaches itself to your nose. This little known wine has a floral bouquet with aromas of figs, pears and wet grass.  Once it has kissed your lips and tickled your throat, you are immediately aware of the flavors of spiced pear, honey and lemon. This wine truly creates a love affair with your senses! Although the nose and taste of the wine are very powerful, it leaves with a clean and crisp finish which begs for another sip.

The Semillon grape is the primary grape of Sauternes where it is late-harvested to make the world's best sweet dessert wines.  It is often blended with Sauvignon Blanc and sometimes Colombard to produce the excellent dry white wines from Bordeaux, where Chateau Haut-Brion Blanc is one of the premier examples.  The grape grows well in Washington State as well as Australia, where the Mt Jagged Vineyards flourish in Southern Australia.

Most Australian wineries blend Semillon with Chardonnay to produce a more fragrant and well rounded wine. We don't often see the the grape as a single variety wine, but this is an awesome example! This is an "un-wooded" wine with no tannin overtones, but still possesses a clean dry finish.

The 2001 Mt. Jagged Estate Semillon normally would sell for $12.99 per 750ml, but we have made a special purchase and can offer the wine at $7.99 which is an extreme value for a wine of this character. There is, of course, a 10% discount for case purchases.
