Driving by 395 East Main St. in Buford, one could simply not fail to notice the grandeur of the European style, historical home that sets there.
On the National Registry of Historical Places today, the Bona Allen Mansion was built in 1911 by Bona Allen Sr. and family. Designed by noted Atlanta architect Haralson Bleckley, the house has 17 rooms with 12-foot ceilings adorned with carved wood paneling, intricate moldings, seven fireplaces, and stained glass windows and accents.
One might never guess, but in 1995 when current owner Douglas Thome purchased the home, which had been lovingly restored by its previous owners, he opened it up as a special events facility. In an effort to bring back and share some of the history of the home, Thome, a professional caterer, employed his skills in event planning and catering to create one of the finest facilities to hold private events.
The six-acre estate is well equipped for large events and specializes in weddings. Thome and his long-term staff handle the planning, including food and beverages, gorgeous custom cakes, and even floral arrangements. The Bona Allen Mansion also caters and hosts corporate events and off-premise catering is available.
In addition to catering, event planning and hosting, the Bona Allen Mansion also hosts Sunday Brunch nine times a year. The remaining 2008 dates for Sunday Brunch include May 11, June 13, September 14, October 12, November 9, and December 14. Sunday Brunch is held in one of the mansion's beautifully decorated dining rooms and features a seasonal menu, lavishly set out buffet style. Special Estate Tours are also offered.
