Forget the cineplex. This summer’s biggest blockbusters – albeit of the culinary variety – can be found at Oscar’s Deli and Grill.
The five-month-old restaurant is serving up a star-studded cast of delicious hot and cold sandwiches for a bargain matinee price, with nothing on the menu over seven dollars. Many of the sandwiches are clever tie-ins to popular movies. The “Jake LaMotta” sandwich, for instance, is named after the controversial boxer in “Raging Bull” and features pastrami, pepperoni and cheese. “The Starling,” inspired by Jodie Foster’s plucky heroine in “The Silence of the Lambs,” is a chicken breast grilled to perfection in Oscar’s sweet and tangy barbecue sauce.
Oscar’s mouth-watering menu has something to please every palate and all food is prepared fresh daily, according to owner David Smith, a restaurateur with eight years experience. “All our sandwiches are made from scratch,” he says, “and we strive to give each customer a unique dining experience.” Oscar’s also provides catering service for office lunches, bridal and baby showers, and graduation parties.
Familiar deli sandwiches such as chicken salad, ham and cheese and the BLT share the bill with more adventurous grilled offerings, like a blackened chicken sandwich rubbed with Oscar’s house blend of Cajun spices and seared on the grill. Another house specialty is rolled sandwiches prepared with lahvosh, or Armenian flat bread. Chili is served every Monday, and on Fridays, tomato basil soup is on hand.
