Pinecrest Academy 5th grader Stephen Morrissey has turned his love of history into a passion for Civil War re-enactments. Attending a re-enactment in Kennesaw two years ago, Stephen approached a soldier and asked how he could join their group. The gentleman was the leader of the 21st Ohio and a historian who lives in the Atlanta area. He has since become Stephen's mentor. He invited the then 3rd grader to join the 21st Ohio as a drummer boy and a fifer. Stephen is currently the companies' principal musician.

Stephen has performed over a dozen re-enactments throughout the Southeast and enjoys traveling to area elementary schools to give talks on the Civil War.  He recently was the guest speaker in Mrs. McCormick's second grade class at Pinecrest Academy. He showed the class how to dress, cook, eat, and even "die" just as real Civil War soldiers would have.  He delighted students by playing the call to battle on his drum and fife!

His passion for the Civil War has led him to meet some very interesting people and see many beautiful historic sites throughout the country.  He hopes to be part of the 150th Anniversary of Gettysburg in 2013. In addition to the Civil War, Stephen is interested in baseball, swimming, and Boy Scouts.
