Why Does Easter Come So Early in 2008?

Easter comes very early this year as it will be celebrated on March 23rd. After this year, Easter will not occur on March 23rd until the year 2160. The earliest Easter can occur is March 22nd, which happened back in 1818, and will not happen again until the year 2285.

Why is Easter celebrated on a different day each year? Easter is always celebrated on the Sunday immediately following the first full moon after the vernal (spring) equinox. Easter can fall anywhere between March 22 and April 25. Once the precise date which Easter is celebrated is determined, the calendar determines which date Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, and Good Friday will be celebrated.
