Family's Home Destroyed by Fire - Community Support Needed

On June 29th at about 2am, many of the 45 homeowners in the Summerwalk Subdivision were awakened to a terrible sound and stepped outside to see flames covering the top of a home.  The fire marshal said that the explosion saved this families life. There has not been a “cause of origin” determined but it has prompted many to install fire alarms in their garages since that was not code when these home were built, about 12 years ago.  The fire marshal says that the fire may have been electrical but they are also looking into the possibility of it being caused by the hot water heater which was located in the garage.

Scott and Jennifer Morris have 2 children, ages 2 and 8. Sadly, it was the 8 year olds birthday and he had not yet opened his presents. As you can see from the pictures, the house was a total loss. Inside the garage were 2 motorcycles, a car, and a car in the driveway also—all destroyed.  Scott has been given a car by his brother from Texas which is a huge blessing since he has to commute to his job.

The Morris’s  are living in an apartment in Cumming and are taking things day by day.  They say that you never realize just how much you use on a daily basis. If you think about losing everything you have ever owned in seconds, its hard to comprehend. At least when you move, you take most everything with you. In a situation like this, your day to day items that you use have to be replaced so they find they run to walmart a lot!

If you would like to donate a wal-mart or Target gift card of any amount to the “Morris Family”, they can be mailed to Morris Family Fire Fund C/O Midway Community Church 3365 Frances Rd. Alpharetta, Ga. 30004 OR dropped off  at the church office M-F 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.

Christmas will be here before we know it and Fire Chief, Danny Bowman  who is the founder of Ariels House, a foundation that provides Christmas presents to children that have been victims of a house fire has graciously committed to provide Christmas this year for the Morris’s two children.
