A Special Message from Whispering Hope

Whispering Hope Women's Resource and Pregnancy Center has good news to share about the growth of their center. Visit www.whisperinghope.org for additional information about the center and its services or how you can help.

It’s time for a change, and some changes come in a big way, sometimes twice as big.  Whispering Hope will soon be moving to the emergency room entrance of the old hospital.  We have been offered twice as much room than we have now, and the offices are already set up as a medical facility.  Ninth District offered us almost 5,000 square feet to use as we transition over to a limited medical clinic. Our nurse manager has brought in a group of men to help paint walls, and Ninth District is paying for the room enclosures that we need to complete the ultrasound room and testing lab. Look for this move to take place beginning July 1st.

In the meantime, we have found a company that is in the process of helping us refurbish our old ultrasound machine, and although it will still be a 2D machine with no heart Doppler, it has served it (and God’s) purpose well. Kerry Jepson from Dr. James Dobson’s “Focus on the Family” group is scheduled to fly in and look at our new facilities on July 30th and 31st.  At that time, she will meet with the board to discuss our affiliation with Focus on the Family and the new 4D ultrasound machine with heart Doppler.

Chalcedon Presbyterian donated money to help with the costs of  20% of the machine; First Baptist, Grace Chapel, Good Shepherd and St. Brendan’s have all taken on rooms to decorate; First Redeemer held a huge fundraiser to purchase new baby furniture for the new store; John’s Creek Women’s group raised money towards the move; Lanier UMC VBS classes and also St. Thomas Aquinas held baby showers to collect items for the store; and many, many people have lent a hand in painting.

We continue to plug away at all of the changes we must meet to be able to receive a Focus on-site consult, and to bring the center up to the recommended specifications of a medical facility.  The process as a whole, has taken a lot of time and a lot of attention to detail, but the center can only be better once all of the changes are implemented.

We have added six new volunteers to our daily mentoring program, and Sawnee Electric qualified the center for a grant to train three nurses to become ultrasound technicians.
The Girls of Grace are at it again.  Not only have they been babysitting the babies for our mommies in the Young Moms2B program on Thursday nights, but they did a canned food and baby food drive to restock our cupboards; plus, the young girls will be here next week to help us move.

Since 2006, our statistics with our ultrasound program are still at an all time high for a crisis pregnancy center.  In two and a half years, only two girls have walked away from the center without giving a decision to carry their babies to term.  That is a high average for a pregnancy center, 2006 being at 100% births, 2007 being at a 99% birth rate, and now in 2008, we are again at a 99% birth rate.  With the new machine, the mother will not only see her child, but will hear the heartbeat. And for the young woman who is confused about her decision, pray that the workers at Whispering Hope continue to offer her hope in her present condition.  Hope in the form of job skills training, computer training, insurance sign up, and doctors in private care who have come forward to say they will take our girls in and give them quality care.

We are currently working with two young ladies who have chosen to give life to their unborn children but who are ready, willing and able to give those babies up to loving families that cannot have children of their own.  Those women will need a lot of nurturing during this time in their lives. Please pray for them as they travel this road of adoption for their preborn babies, a very unselfish gift to give to a couple who have yearned for a baby of their own but could not have one. And thank you for loving them; both mother and child.
