Pilgrim Mill Peninsula Residents Rally to Battle Commercial Rezoning

Residents of the Pilgrim Mill Road peninsula are preparing to oppose a request for rezoning a 7-acre lot at the corner of Tamiami Trail, which is east of Holtzclaw Road, from residential (R-3) to commercial (CBD).  The residents' petition was successful before, in 2002-2003, when the owner wanted to have it changed from neighborhood convenience to commercial, but settled on residential (R-3) rezoning.

Residents are responding to notice of a public informational meeting this Thursday, July 24, 2008.  Officials of Pilgrim Landing homeowner's association will be prepared to cite the future land use map and show that the entire peninsula east of Holtzclaw was intended to remain a residential area, and that the outcome of this same case in 2003 set a precedent in that it moved to make the land residential.  All of Forsyth County residents would be interested to know that any gas or oil runoff resulting from a business placed there would be running into the very same cove with Forsyth County's water intake.

The notice proposed building a large-capacity boat storage on the lot; however, at the moment their announced plan is not a promise.  If the landowner, Lakeside Development Company, LLC, is successful in its rezoning request to commercial, any sort of business at all might be built there, not necessarily a boat storage.

Concerned citizens are encouraged to attend the informational meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2008, at the Cumming/Forsyth Chamber of Commerce Events Facility, which is at 212 Kelly Mill Road in Cumming.
